Computer generated artificial reality.

History:
Term created by Antonin Artaud, a French actor
Has roots in fiction and theater
Technology begun in 1950’s
First commercial VR system created in 1988, named “Virtuality”
After that progress and search continued

Virtual reality environments are primarily visual experiences
User can interact either through standard input devices, such as, mouse key-board or through multi-modal devices, like, head-gear or hand-gloves

Adventure Games - Textually described virtual worlds, where the user perceives the virtual environment through mental images
Desktop -3-D virtual environment, graphically displayed on a desktop computer monitor
Projected -3-D environment projected onto a screen
Semi-Immersive -The user has partial contact with the real world
Immersive -The user has no contact with the physical world

Technologies:
1-Head-Mounted Display (HMD) - A helmet or a face mask providing the visual and auditory displays.

3-Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) - Provides the illusion of immersion by projecting stereo images on the walls and floor of a room-sized cube.

4-Data Glove - Enables natural interaction with virtual objects by hand gesture recognition .

5-Control Devices - Control virtual objects in 3 dimensions .
