  • 3. CourseReader CourseReader is a new technology tool introduced by Cengage Learning. It allows teachers access to thousands of online journals specific to what they teach. This then allows teachers to create an online collection of the articles they want their students to read and have access to. Click on me to take you to the second part of this summary
  • 4. CourseReader Cengage Learning also kept all the needs of the students in mind while creating CourseReader. The readings that the teachers choose can be learned in various formats. Students can listen to them online, print them on paper, or download them as MP3 files to listen to on their iPods. Click on the iPod to go to my personal reflection of this article.
  • 5. Personal Reflection of CourseReader I believe that this piece of technology created by Cengage Learning will be very beneficial for teachers to use. For one it allows teachers to provide their students with everything they need in one area, and I believe that it is also a good way for teachers to be easily prepared for their classes. Problem I do see one problem with CourseReader. The problem is that not every student has access to the internet outside of school. This problem may limit the use of CourseReader. • 6. Using Technology to Improve Student Achievement This article is about how using technology in school suits the needs of students today. The article projects the students as having “wired” lives which means that our generation is used to having everything accessible at the tips of our finger tips. In surveys done to complete the article, they found that many students uses the internet to complete and help with homework. Click on the image to go to the next slide.
  • 7. Using Technology to Improve Student Achievement This article also talks about how there are many different types of technology being used in the educational field today. Some examples given are video, laptop computing, internet, and podcast. These are just a few examples and the numbers of types of technology are only continuing to grow. Click on the film strip to go to the next slide.
  • 8. Personal Reflection of Using Technology to Improve Student Achievement I believe that it is important to get new technology into schools to better improve the students achievement. Students today are so used to using technology in everyday life. I believe that students would pay more attention and think that learning is “cooler” if they are able to use the newer technological advances. With schools implementing these new technologies, I believe that we will see a new form of teaching in the next few years. Click on MENU to go back to the other two articles.
  • 9. Promoting Technology Use in Schools Although there has been increasing numbers of schools implementing new technologies to help students learn, we still need to promote the use of technology in school to grow and be more easily accessible. We can just implement technology and say we did it, but we have to implement it and pursue it to make it better. Click the image to go to the next slide.
  • 10. Promoting Technology Use in Schools There are some struggles with implementing technology in the schools. One struggle is the time and money that goes into the training of how to use the technology. Another struggle is providing technical support for all the new technology. Although there are struggles, we need to see past them and try to use as much technology in schools as possible as long as it is effective in helping students learn. Click the image to go to the next slide.
  • 11. Personal Reflection of Promoting Technology Use in Schools I believe that technology use in schools will be very beneficial in the long run. Although there are some struggles with getting the technology implemented in the schools, I believe we need to do everything we can as future teachers to get our schools to suit the needs of our students. As a student now, I can say that I would want all the technology available to me that is possible. Children today are so used to having everything accessible from the stroke of a key. We should see the upside of that and design our classrooms around their needs. Click on MENU to go back to the other two articles.
  • 12. Conclusion As we can see, technology is becoming a great aspect of our schools today. IUPUI has Oncourse as a way for the students to have a central webpage for their classes. We need to promote the use of technology such as CourseReader in our classrooms so that our students are able to easily access what we need them to access. As future teachers, technology is going to be very prominent, and we need to go in ready to tackle the struggles of implementing these new technologies. Technology is going to make our classrooms stronger and more accessible to our students. Reference Page click NEXT
