  3. 3. Overview Informatics Department is part of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences University of Padjadjaran. There are 4 research groups in Informatics Department UNPAD 1 Information System, Data Mining and Software Engineering Research Group 2 Image Processing and Computer Vision Research Group 3 Intelligent Systems and Robotics Research Group 4 Knowledge and Data Engineering Research Group Computer Vision Research Laboratory (VisiLab) is part of Image Processing and Computer Vision Research Group.   4. 4. Computer Vision Research Laboratory (VisiLab) VisiLab is focussed on the research on how to extract semantic information from an image or a sequence of images. The information extraction process could be in the form of acquiring, processing, analysing, extracting features and recognizing of image. The information characteristics can be related to physical characteristics and non-physiscal characteristics. Physical characteristics in images can be divided into textual, graphical and facial characteristics.   7. 7. DeWa DeWa : A Multiaspect Approach for Multiple Face Detection in Complex Scene Digital Image. A new approach is developed based on philosophy and knowledge of computational vision process. 1 Segmentation: two methods are used for segmentation, Piecewise Linier Decision and Gaussian Mixture Models, implemented in four color models, RGB, RGB normalized, HSI and YCbCr. 2 Noise Removal: noises are removed and image is enhanced by Morphological filters and Connected Component Labelling. 3 Object Detection: each detected objects are analyzed and measured to conform the facial geometric criteria 4 The faces then are extracted for the next implementation. Virtual Kendang Virtual Kendang is a software that simulates a traditional drum based on virtual reality technology. 1 The research is to build algorithm to detect 3D hand push and pull movements on a surface according to distance and speed 2 The research has contribution to introduce one of Sundanese musical instrument that can be played virtually 3 It can be used as a learning tool of Sundanese art in the context of culture and identity preservation of Sundanese people. 4 As musical instrument, Virtual Kendnag can be played along with other instruments to create wonderful sounds as the result of collaboration between classical and modern music.
