  6. 6. WisdomThe first of the seven gifts of the HolySpirit gives us the grace to see things asGod sees them. At Confirmation we receivethe strength to be wise, the sense that weput a proper value on people and things. We are helped to see that people are moreimportant than their job or profession. Webegin to see the truth of the motto, “Lovepeople, use things”. Don’t love things anduse people. © Seomra Ranga 2013
  7. 7. UnderstandingThis is the gift which helps us to know howpeople are feeling deep down inside. Ifthey come to us when they are in troublethey know that we will not misjudge. Ifthey are different to us, they will be surewe won’t laugh at them. The Holy Spiritwill help us understand what peoplecannot say, especially when they are sotroubled or so confused that they cannotthink clearly. © Seomra Ranga 2013
  8. 8. Right JudgementThis is the gift of the Holy Spirit whichhelps us to decide which way to act indifficult situations. It gives us the strengthto see both sides of the picture accuratelywhen we are making major decisions inour lives. Just as some people are giftedwith a high I.Q., Confirmation gives us ahigh J.Q. (Judgement Quotient). One canbe very intelligent and still make sillymistakes. © Seomra Ranga 2013
  9. 9. CourageCourage is not freedom from fear; it’sbeing afraid but still carrying on. This giftgives us the strength to do what is righteven when we know that people willoppose us. It helps us to speak the trutheven when our words are sure to make lifeunpleasant. We need courage when we’rein danger of losing our friends - or evenour lives. We all need to be brave at times. © Seomra Ranga 2013
  10. 10. KnowledgeKnowledge, as a gift of the Holy Spirit, isnot just knowing facts but knowing themeaning behind the facts. This is the giftwhich helps us to discover God’s will for usand which helps us to know more andmore about God Himself. It makes usaware that God is kind and forgiving andgives us the strength to be just like Himwhen people are unkind to us or refuse toforgive us. © Seomra Ranga 2013
  11. 11. ReverenceReverence helps us to understand what isholy in this world of ours; not only inobviously holy things and places likechalices and churches, but holiness inpeople; and not only in obviously holypeople like Mother Teresa of Calcutta, butin ordinary people who try to live decentlives despite their limitations, whetherthey are rich or poor, young or old, blackor white, educated or ignorant, from thecity or the country. © Seomra Ranga 2013
  12. 12. Wonder and Awe in God’sPresenceThis final gift of the Holy Spirit helps us tosee God’s presence everywhere we look. When we examine a little ladybird or acaterpillar, when we see the sun setbehind the mountains or drop into the sea, when we take a close look at the nail ofour little finger, we should be able to say,“This is unique, Lord. Thank you”. © Seomra Ranga 2013
