  • 2. The App Store Optimization Platform What Are App Bundles? App Bundles are a new feature that will be available in iOS 8. It will allow publishers with multiple paid apps to offer two or more apps in a discounted bundle. ! The following slides will help you understand how app bundles work and how this new pricing structure could affect the iOS ecosystem. It could also affect free apps, so even if you don’t have a paid app, it is worth paying attention to. Copyright © 2014 Sensor Tower SensorTower.com
  • 3. The App Store Optimization Platform How Do App Bundles Work? Here are the details: ! • Anyone with a Developer account and apps for sale can create a bundle • There are a maximum of 10 apps in each bundle • Bundles are installed with one tap • Setup is done in iTunes Connect • Will be available in the Fall, 2014 • You can have up to 10 bundles available for sale at once • Individual apps can only be included in a maximum of three bundles • All apps in a Bundle must be available in the country that the Bundle is being sold • Apps in a Bundle must be available for sale individually. No Bundle specific apps. • You can offer a discount to people who have already purchased one of the apps in a bundle ! To get programming information about bundles, click here. ! ! ! ! • 4. The App Store Optimization Platform What Is The Revenue Potential? Bundling brings up an interesting question when it comes to revenue. This new feature should help some publishers with multiple paid apps. ! Apps that have a similar function should lend themselves well to bundling. Games are the first thing that come to mind. ! But what about other apps? ! There is really no way of knowing until bundling takes effect. The bottom line is to be aware of what it is going on in your niche and react accordingly. ! One thing that could happen is that since the average price per paid app could go down, we might start to see more apps that are free with in-app purchases. This means that free apps will have more competition. ! Copyright © 2014 Sensor Tower SensorTower.com
  • 5. The App Store Optimization Platform What Is The Revenue Potential? Another thing that could happen is that bundling might only affect publishers with multiple related apps and there won’t be an effect on the ecosystem as a whole. There might not be enough of these publishers to make a dent in sales of other apps. ! Ideally, bundling will increase the revenue of iOS publishers and decrease the average purchase price of apps to the consumer. But it remains to be seen. ! What do you think?
