Mabuhay! ...

Mabuhay!

There are many who are unable to participate in the Holy Week tradition of visiting 7 Churches and doing the Way of the Cross, for all sorts of reasons.

Some may be far from home in the Americas, in the Middle East, Europe, Asia or elsewhere around the world, while others are confined to their homes due to old age or illness and still others may be at work.

We have therefore prepared a small touch of home for Holy Week to offer you the opportunity to visit 7 historic churches on Panay Island and elsewhere with two Stations of the Way of the Cross at each church to help with your Holy Week observances.

    • Preparatory prayer:O most merciful Jesus, with a contrite heart and penitentspirit, I bow down in profound humility before Your divinemajesty. I adore You as my supreme Lord and Master; Ibelieve in You, I hope in You, I love You above allthings. I am heartily sorry for having offended You, mySupreme and Only Good. I resolve to amend my life, andalthough I am unworthy to obtain mercy, yet the sight ofYour holy cross, on which You died, inspires me withhope and consolation. I will, therefore, meditate on Yoursufferings, and visit the stations of Your Passion incompany with Your sorrowful Mother and my guardianangel, with the intention of promoting Your honor andsaving my soul.I desire to gain all the indulgences granted for this holyexercise for myself and for the Poor Souls in Purgatory. Omerciful Redeemer, who has said, "And I, if I be lifted fromearth, will draw all things to Myself," draw my heart and mylove to You, that I may perform this devotion as perfectlyas possible, and that I may live and die in union with You.Amen. Toremain a friend of Caesar, Pilate delivered Him into thehands of His enemies. A fearful crime -- to condemnInnocence to death, and to offend God in order not todisplease men!Prayer: O innocent Jesus, having sinned, I am guilty ofeternal death, but You willingly accepted the unjustsentence of death, that I might live. For whom, then, shall Ihenceforth live, if not for You, my Lord? Should I desire toplease men, I could not be Your servant. Let me, therefore, rather displease men and all the world, than not pleaseYou, O Jesus.Lord Jesus, crucified, have mercy on us!Recite:• Our Father, who art in heaven…• Hail Mary full of Grace…• Glory Be to the Father…Jesus Christ, crucified, have mercy on us!

O dearly beloved cross! Iembrace you, I kiss you, I joyfully accept you from thehands of my God. Far be it from me to glory in anything, save in the cross of my Lord and Redeemer. By it the worldshall be crucified to me and I to the world, that I may beYours forever.Recite: Our Father, who art in heaven… Hail Mary full of Grace… Glory Be to the Father…Jesus Christ, crucified, have mercy on us!

Our sins and misdeeds were the heavy burdenwhich oppressed Him: the cross was to Him light andsweet, but our sins were galling and insupportable.Prayer: O my Jesus, You did bear my burden and thePrayerheavy weight of my sins. Should I, then, not bear in unionwith You, my easy burden of suffering and accept thesweet yoke of You commandments? Your yoke is sweetand Your burden is light: I therefore willingly accept it. I willtake up my cross and follow You.Recite:Recite• Our Father, who art in heaven…• Hail Mary full of Grace…• Glory Be to the Father…Jesus Christ, crucified, have mercy on us!

How earnestlydid she desire to die in place of Jesus, or at least with Him!Implore this sorrowful Mother that she assist you in thehour of your death.Prayer: O Jesus, O Mary, I am the cause of the great andPrayermanifold pains which pierce your loving hearts! Oh, thatalso my heart would feel and experience at least some ofyour sufferings! What return shall I make forPrayerall the benefits You have bestowed upon me? Behold Iconsecrate myself entirely to Your service. I offer andconsecrate to You my heart: imprint on it Your sacredimage, never again to be effaced by sin.Recite:• Our Father, who art in heaven…• Hail Mary full of Grace…• Glory Be to the Father…Jesus Christ, crucified, have mercy on us!

OfferPrayerme Your helping hand, and aid me, that I may not fall againinto my former sins. From this very moment, I will earnestlystrive to reform: nevermore will I sin! Ibeseech You, through Your bitter and bloody tears, tomove my heart by Your divine grace, so that from my eyestears may flow abundantly, and that I may weep all mydays over Your sufferings, and still more over their cause,my sins.Recite:• Our Father, who art in heaven…• Hail Mary full of Grace…• Glory Be to the Father…Jesus Christ, crucified, have mercy on us!

How painful thismust have been because they adhered to His woundedand torn body, and with them parts of His bloody skin wereremoved! All the wounds of Jesus were renewed. Jesuswas despoiled of His garments that He might diepossessed of nothing; how happy will I also die after layingaside my former self with all evil desires and sinfulinclinations!Prayer: Induce me, O Jesus, to lay aside my former selfPrayerand to be renewed according to Your will and desire. I willnot spare myself, however painful this should be for me:despoiled of things temporal, of my own will, I desire to die,in order to live for You forever.Recite:• Our Father, who art in heaven…• Hail Mary full of Grace…• Glory Be to the Father…Jesus Christ, crucified, have mercy on us!

How fretful and impatient, howfull of complaints I am!Prayer: O Jesus, gracious Lamb of God, I renouncePrayerforever my impatience. Crucify, O Lord, my flesh and itsconcupiscences; scourge, scathe and punish me in thisworld, do but spare me in the next.
