    • The heart
      • By Georgia . Lee
    • He Your heart is a muscle that pumps blood to all parts of the body. The blood provides your body with the oxygen and nourishment it needs to function. Waste products carried by the blood are removed from the body by the kidney and the lungs.
    • Blood pressure Blood pressure is the pressure of the blood in your arteries as the heart pumps it around your body. If your blood pressure remains high it can also lead to serious problems, such as a heart attack, a stroke, heart failure or kidney disease.
      • How Does The Heart Work?
      • The heart is a muscle that works like a pump distributing blood through the body. The heart has four chambers. The top two chambers are the left and right atria and the bottom two are the left and right ventricles. Blood vessels lead in and out of these chambers. Oxygenated blood from the lungs flows into your heart and then is pumped out to the rest of the body.
      • How Does Blood Flow Through The Heart?
      • Your heart muscle is a very efficient pump that delivers blood, oxygen and nutrients to your body. The right side of the heart pumps blood into the lungs and the left side pumps blood into the organs and tissues of your body. After your blood flows through the body, its life giving oxygen.
      • How Does The Heart Beat?
      • The atria and ventricles work together by alternately contracting (squeezing) and relaxing to pump blood through to your heart. The heart beat is triggered by electrical impulses that travel down special pathway through to your heart. The electrical system of your heart is the power source that makes this beating possible.
      • What And Where Are The Coronary Arteries?
      • The heart requires oxygen to function properly. But the blood that is pumping through the heart does not supply oxygen to the heart muscle itself. Special blood vessels attached to the outside of the heart, called coronary arteries, supply the heart with oxygen and nutrients needs.
