    A principal at ITIC said “Corporations are deploying Macs and the Mac OS X 10.x at a rate not seen since the late 1980s.68% of respondents in a recent ITIC survey to state that they will allow end users to deploy Macs as their corporate desktops, doubling the number of respondents from the previous year.Drivers for growth:“Consumerization” of Macs in the enterprise has led workers who’ve enjoyed positive experiences with Macs in the home environment to seek out the same experience in the corporate environment. Microsoft Vista was a complete disaster—a number of businesses refused to upgrade to the operating system and turned to alternative platforms such as Mac OS X.Apple’s upcoming operating system, OS X Snow Leopard has built-in enterprise support for organizations that have the latest version of Microsoft Exchange.

    The penetration of Macs into the enterprise makes it essential for businesses to utilize a cross-platform systems management solution. Existing options are lacking.Mac-Only Solutions:-Can’t handle other platforms-Eliminating future flexibility for businesses to bring Windows into their environment without purchasing a separate solution. Management suites that advertise the fact that they offer cross-platform support. -These management suites offer unequal levels of support for Macs and Windows, with being relegated to “2nd class status”-Piggy back off of Apple’s xServe solution and require customers to invest in additional hardware and software.
