  2. 2. So, What is PRSSA? <ul><li>PRSSA is the Public Relations Student Society of America Nearly 300 Chapters, more than 10,000 members </li></ul><ul><li>Public Relations Society of America Nearly 30,000 members in all areas of the public relations industry </li></ul>

So, What is Public Relations? <ul><li>Public relations helps an organization and its publics adapt mutually to each other. </li></ul><ul><li>In this definition, the essential functions of research, planning, communications and evaluation are implied. Key words are &quot;organization,&quot; rather than the limiting implication of &quot;company&quot; or &quot;business,&quot; and &quot;publics,&quot; which recognizes that all organizations have multiple publics from which they must earn consent and support. </li></ul><ul><li>*According to PRSA </li></ul>

PRSSA Mission <ul><li>To serve our members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities </li></ul><ul><li>To serve the public relations profession by helping to develop highly qualified, well-prepared professionals. </li></ul>

PRSSA encourages the following: <ul><li>Awareness of an appropriate professional attitude </li></ul><ul><li>Appreciation of Associate Membership in PRSA and eventual membership </li></ul><ul><li>Understanding of current theories and procedures of the profession </li></ul><ul><li>Appreciation of the highest ethical ideals and principles </li></ul>

PRSSA Structure <ul><li>Chapters- Nearly 300 local chapters nationwide, led by executive boards and associated with a local PRSA Chapter </li></ul><ul><li>National Committee - The PRSSA National Committee is comprised of 14 student members, elected annually at the National Conference </li></ul><ul><li>PRSSA Headquarters - The Society's headquarters office is located in New York City, under the direction of the PRSSA director and other support staff. </li></ul>

Affiliation with PRSA <ul><li>PRSA Associate Membership </li></ul><ul><ul><li>As a graduate and member of PRSSA you have the opportunity to become an Associate Member of PRSA for only $60 per year. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Associate Membership can be held for only two years and at the special rate. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>PRSA Relationship Building </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Each PRSSA chapter has a parent PRSA chapter. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>As a member you have the opportunity to be invited to PRSA events, including monthly luncheons and meetings, at a reduced cost. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>World of networking and learning. </li></ul></ul>

NETWORKING is the Name of the Game! <ul><li>If you aren’t constantly meeting new people, you close yourself off from new business. </li></ul><ul><li>Take a few minutes and introduce yourself to as many people in the room as you possibly can. </li></ul><ul><li>One great tip for remembering people is to learn their name then learn at least two things about them that you’ll be able to associate with that name and face. </li></ul><ul><li>Take a few minutes, starting now! </li></ul>
