  • 3. What can fossils teach us about the earth?
  • 4. How are fossils made? Fossils are formed in two ways. An animal can live in a place where the land is soft and muddy (or close to water) When it dies it gets buried under the dirt or sand. Then over MILLIONS of years it turns into ROCK! What do you see?
  • 5. Fossils… Sometimes when an animal or plant leaves an imprint on something that shape is PRESERVED!
  • 6.  A PALEONTOLOGIST is a scientist who studies fossils! Their job includes a lot of digging in the dirt! The place where they dig is called an EXCAVATION! Sometimes when paleontologists go on excavations they find fossils that were EXTINCT! Animals that are extinct means their kind is no longer living.
