X Lighting Circuiting and Design • When circuiting lighting plans always print the lighting plans and redline the design DO NOT CIRCUIT ON SCREEN! • Count all light fixtures and use different color highlighters • Keep all lights on the same circuits, adjacent to each other Lighting Circuiting (cont.) 08/01/13 4

X Lighting Circuiting and Design • For T8 & T5 Fluorescent Lamps use the total Lamp Wattage • i.e. If you have (2) 32W T8 lamps use 64W • Fluorescent Ballast factor can vary from .76 to 1.18 • BALLASTS SHALL BE INSTANT START, ELECTRONIC TYPE, CLASS P, "A" SOUND RATING AND MAXIMUM HARMONIC CONTENT OF 10% • DIMMING BALLASTS SHALL BE 3-WIRE TYPE, WITH DIMMING CAPABILITY TO 10% OF RATED FULL OUTPUT • ALL FIXTURE / BALLAST / LAMP COMBINATIONS SHALL BE ENERGY SAVING TYPE New Wattage Standards 08/01/13 5

X Lighting Circuiting and Design • GE 3 Lamp Ballast type 23673-GE-332 with 3 lamps the total fixture wattage is 85W. 11W less • Same Ballast with 2 lamps is 65W. 1W more • GE 4 Lamp Ballast type 23675-GE-432 with 3 lamps the total fixture wattage is 113W. 15W less • Same Ballast with 3 lamps is 97W. 1W more • Two level switching fixture with (2) ballasts [ 2-lamps and 1-lamp] total wattage is 61+36= 97W • To be safe use the total Lamp Wattage New Wattage Standards (cont.) 08/01/13 6
  7. 7. X Lighting Circuiting and Design • For CFL use the fixture wattage +4W. I.e. fixture with (2) 16W use 18+18+4= 40W • Except the 42W CFL add 5W • GE CFL13W 1 lamp fixture with 87533-GE1CFL13PH total system wattage is 16W • GE CFL42W 1 lamp fixture with 87573-GE1CFL42PH total system wattage is 47W New Wattage Standards (cont.) 08/01/13 7

X Lighting Circuiting and Design • For LED fixtures: • If the driver is built-in, the total fixture wattage is what the manufacturer advertised, per IEC and DOE standard • For remote driver fixtures and fixtures where the EC has to provide a step down 24V transformer, add the LED wattage and driver efficiency New Wattage Standards (cont.) 08/01/13 10
