  • 3. A big thank you to Sue for donating fabric to thepillowcase cause! She donated a box of fabricthat was plenty enough to make lots of pillowcases. Sharon has been busy making pillowcases for the girls at Brookwood for the club’s annual Christmas donation. $300 Thanks to Ric Carvalis for the donation to OIDominican Republic Foundation!Kathy gave us a presentation of her tripto the Dominican. Of all the things that she told us, the one thing thatmade an impression on me was that she arrived in the Dominicanwith a full suitcase and left with an empty suitcase. She gave all herclothing to the poor women of the Dominican. That was such awonderful thing to do.A small tidbit of Dominican history…the island of Hispaniola (theDominican Republic forms the eastern two-thirds and Haiti forms therest) was originally occupied by the Tainos, an Arawak-speakingpeople. To ensure Birthday!adequate labor for plantations, Betty Jo Carvalis – August 8ththe Spanish brought African slavesto the island in 1503. Carol Andorfer – August 9th

The Optimist CreedPromise Yourself -To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit thepresence of trouble.
