Text a Librarian<br />Our system offers Text a Librarian which is a full service reference desk available by text messaging during our normal operating hours.<br />To ask a question, simply send your question to 66746 and begin your question with the word OPLIB.<br />The question on the side would look like this on your phone:<br />OPLIB When will ebooks be available for check out to a Kindle?<br />
  9. 9. iPad & iPhone apps<br />We have a fully function iPhone & iPad app that can be downloaded from the Apple store!<br />From this app, you can search for materials, place holds, check your account, renew items, AND it even presents your library barcode if you don’t have your card or ID avaliable. <br />

We have a collection of popular Teen titles, as well as nominees for the LYRC and LTRC award available for download on our eBooks website. <br />This service also has a app so that even if the student doesn’t own an e-reader, they can read the books from their iPhone, Droid, or Blackberry.<br />Overdrive – downloadable audiobooks and ebooks for Teens<br />

Sylvan Learning Center provides us with a FREE ACT Practice workshop in the spring (Feb/Mar) and fall (Sept/Oct).<br />Registration is limited – we have room for 50 students.<br />They take the test in the same test environment, timed in the same manner.<br />Teens come back the following Saturday to receive their ‘scores’ and a session on how to prepare for the ACT.<br />FREE ACT Practice Workshops<br />

Library tours can be scheduled at any of our 10 branches by contacting the branch to which you are planning to travel.<br />Tours can be set up to accommodate specific requests from the class, such as a tour of the Reference collection during research paper time, or a general tour of the library and it’s facilities.<br />Class presentations can be scheduled by calling Stephanie Wilkes at 327-1490 ext. 3024. I will come personally or designate one of my staff members to attend.<br />Presentations can be adapted to whatever your classroom may be studying or even booktalks on AR books to get students interested in reading.<br />Library Tours and In Class Presentations<br />
  13. 13. 2nd Annual ZOMBIE PROM! – Oct 22<br />Our 2nd Annual Zombie Prom will be held Oct. 22 at the Main Branch.<br />Last year, we had over 100 teens attend and receive free FAKE wounds, registered for door prizes, and have a great time dancing and eating party foods. <br />This is one of our highest attended programs in YA services history!<br />
