  • Welcome to the all new Model ELC from Controlled Power Co. We’ll take a look at the prominent features which set this new addition to the CPC Inverter family, apart from anything else in its class in the industry
  • Historically, Life Safety has been “Design by Disaster”. It is the designers obligation to provide proper notification systems along with reliable, well lit and marked paths of egress.
  • First lets recap what we have to work with here… The key features of this offering, for the sake of this discussion, are ELN and ELE Series use what is quite often referred to as a “constant voltage transformer” based topology. The ELU Series offers a true on line, double conversion topology. Both of which provide outstanding power quality solution characteristics!
  • Although a new topic in lighting circles, Power Quality is a well known culprit in electronic component failures. As electronics are continuing to expand in the lighting market, this issue becomes a more prominent topic in the design and service aspects of project designs The CPC family of inverters deliver the tightest voltage regulation in the industry (+/-1.5 to 3%), noise attenuation/filtering and provide a computer grade sinewave to all output loads. Thereby assuring the designer/engineer of optimum power for critical lighting performance!
  • But don’t just take our word for it! Here’s an industry comparison showing that the CPC family of inverters have the widest input range on the market and yet they deliver the tightest load voltage regulation of anybody. Then just to make it even better, nobody outdoes us on output sinewave harmonic distortion (vTHD) or as far as cleaning up random electrical noise and transients! The competition can only match us on a few individual points. But from top to bottom, we’re the best!
  • First lets start with the basic features of this new Inverter… The key features of this offering, The ELC offers a true on line, double conversion topology (Note that kVA = KW in terms of rating and supporting of all types of lighting loads). This then allows it to deliver outstanding power quality solution characteristics! Plus as you’ll see, offering a lot of configurability through both controls and communications, as well as options and features.
  • Most of you will recognize the traditional single line diagram of how the ELC and most other Double Conversion based inverters operate. The two primary keys to remember with the ELC are that 1) it is capable of supporting all types of lighting loads at full rated power, without the need for additional filters or controls. 2) It delivers regulated, spike-free sinewave to the critical load, thereby extending the life of electronic lighting loads like LED and “Energy Efficient” Fluorescent lighting.
  • This Status and Control panel for the ELC offers a similar appearance to the standard panel on the ELU Series with indicators for incoming power presence, whether or not the inverter is in bypass mode, how heavily the ELC is currently being loaded, % Battery Time remaining, Check Battery indicator, and an Audible Alarm/Silence switch, as well as basic On/Off Soft Keys. But that’s just the beginning…
  • While the ELC can certainly interface with typical remote annunciators, autodialers, fax modems and so on…it also includes a direct connection to the NetMinder option, mounted within the ELC cabinet. The NETMINDER allows the ELC to communicate directly with more contemporary Facility Management Systems like PowerLogic, Fanuc, Windows, etc.
  • Dimensionally, the ELC Series is a true front access only cabinet design, where input/output conduits are routed via the unit’s top rather than the sides (although an installer could land his conduits from the side if they so desired). Comparatively as you can see, the others in the industry are close in size but many require additional side conduit access space…thereby making their net space requirement even bigger!
  • Then last but not least, in terms of Power Quality and overall performance, the ELC remains on par with its bigger brothers in the CPC product family of Inverters, which by the way, also outclass the competition in terms of delivering spike-free, regulated power to critical emergency loads which now include electronics. Finally then just to qualify what we’re saying here in the last column, we’re defining Isolated output as a true, computer grade, sinewave that’s been recreated by either the inclusion of an Isolation transformer or true on-line, double conversion process. So in conclusion, as we’ve already discussed, this means superior more predictable lighting along the path of egress, for a significantly longer design life of the building.
