Aims of the day <ul><li>(1) Introduce LAs to the work of the SMP and LGAID; </li></ul><ul><li>(2) Emphasise the continuing importance and value of international work at Local Government level; </li></ul><ul><li>(3) Make LAs aware of the funding opportunities that exist for international development work and how best they can access them;… </li></ul>

Aims of the day (cont.) <ul><li>(4) Give practical training on developing successful international plans/projects using the LGAID toolkit; </li></ul><ul><li>(5) Consider the best approach to handling media coverage and general communications around international work; </li></ul><ul><li>(6) Stress the unique opportunity that further developing links between Scotland and Malawi offers LAs. </li></ul>

Goals of SMP-LA engagement <ul><li>Short Term: </li></ul><ul><li>Increase LA awareness of SMP activities/ members within their area; </li></ul><ul><li>Help LAs and SMP Members share information for mutual benefit. </li></ul><ul><li>Medium Term: </li></ul><ul><li>Increase LA involvement with practical activities of SMP members; </li></ul><ul><li>Start to increase SMP engagement with Malawian Local Government… </li></ul>
  11. 16. Goals of SMP-LA engagement <ul><li>Long Term: </li></ul><ul><li>Start a pilot partnership between one Scottish and one Malawian Local Authority; </li></ul><ul><li>Develop a best practice guide to establishing Local Authority Links and expand the program across Scotland. </li></ul>
