  3. 3. How does the giraffe adapt to its environment? <ul><li>Giraffes long neck helps them to eat leaves from the trees that grow tall. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Detailed description of the habitat <ul><li>Giraffes tend to live in dry, open wooded areas in the savanna. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Who are the giraffe’s enemies? <ul><li>Giraffes have few enemies. They are hunted by poachers and sometimes by lions, although this is rare as one kick with the long legs and heavy hooves can kill a lion. The babies are eaten by leopards, hyenas and wild dogs. </li></ul>
  6. 6. How does the animal protect itself? <ul><li>As the world's tallest animal, it uses its fast pace and extraordinary vision to protect itself. When attacked a giraffe uses its strong powerful hooves to kick its predator. Its lethal kick has been known to kill a lion! </li></ul>
  7. 7. What does the giraffe eat? <ul><li>Giraffes may eat up to 34 kg (75 lbs) of food per day and can live for weeks without drinking water. They spend most of their day eating and their favorite leaves are from the acacia tree. </li></ul>

Fast Facts <ul><li>Giraffes use their strong legs to kick predators when under attack. </li></ul><ul><li>Giraffes can run up to 56 km/h (35 mph). </li></ul><ul><li>Giraffes can go without water for weeks or months at a time. </li></ul><ul><li>A giraffe's neck can be over 1.5 m (5 ft) in length, but it contains only seven vertebrae. </li></ul>
