Grammar Present progressive This tense is used to emphasise the course or duration of an action. It is used for actions that are occurring at the time of speaking and for actions occurring over a short time period. (e.g. I am cooking right now.) It is also used for actions that will take place in the near future. (e.g. Tonight I am going to the cinema.) It is formed with a conjugated form of ‘to be’ in the present tense and ‘ing’ at the end of the infinitive:
