Transcript of "BioShield 75 And Biofilm Prevention Mwbs"

 1. 1. BioShield® 75 and Biofilm
 2. 2. What is BioShield® 75 antimicrobial product protection? BioShield®75 is a long-lasting, sprayed-on surface protectant used in conjunction with normal cleaning procedures to greatly reduce or eliminate the buildup of MRSA, Type A Influenza ( Swine Flu ), E. coli, Salmonella, mold, etc. It is effective on nearly any surface, including cutting boards, countertops, door handles, walls, locker room floors, restrooms, gym mats, etc. The list is nearly endless!
 3. 3. How does BioShield® 75 protection work? BioShield®75 forms an odorless, colorless, completely NON TOXIC microscopic “bed of nails” on a surface and punctures the cell wall of microbes that land on the surface, and then electrocutes the microbe. All of this happens mechanically, so the microbe is unable to build up an immunity to BioShield®75. This protection lasts a minimum of 90 days, no matter how often the surface is wiped down or cleaned. In fact, normal cleaning is necessary to maximize the effectiveness of BioShield®75. Without normal cleaning, dirt buildup, paint, dead microbes, etc. will build up a layer of film that prevents the “bed of nails” from coming in contact with the microbe and killing it.
 4. 4. What is a microbe?

A microorganism or microbe is an organism that is microscopic (too small to be visible to the human eye).

The study of microorganisms is called microbiology. Microorganisms can be bacteria, fungi, archaea or protists, but not viruses.

Micro-organisms are often described as single-celled, or unicellular organisms; however, some unicellular protists are visible to the human eye, and some multi-cellular species are microscopic…..

 5. 5. What is a microbe?

Microorganisms live almost everywhere on earth where there is liquid or water.

Microorganisms are critical to nutrient recycling in ecosystems as they act as decomposers.

However, pathogenic microbes can invade other organisms and therefore cause disease…….

 6. 6. Staphylococcus Aureus (Staph infection)
 7. 7. What is an Antimicrobial?

Substance that inhibits the growth of microorganisms like

Swine flu

MRSA

Staph

Ringworm

E. coli

Salmonella

Athlete’s Foot

Mold

Mildew

and fungi

Classifications: Disinfectant, Sanitizer, and Protectant

Bound versus Leaching Antimicrobials

BioShield® 75 is a bound protectant…..

 8. 8. What benefit do I get from products that are treated with BioShield® 75? BioShield®75 protects your family, customers and employees from the spread of deadly microbes like MRSA and the Swine Flu, to name just a couple, by keeping touch points like door handles, countertops and cutting boards microbe-free.
 9. 9. What types of microorganisms does BioShield® 75 protection work against?

BioShield® 75 protection is effective against most common bacteria, yeasts, molds and fungi that cause stains, odors and product degradation. Here’s a brief list:

MRSA

Staph

Type A Influenza (Swine Flu)

E. coli

Salmonella

Ringworm

Mold

Mildew

Athlete’s Foot

Shigellosis

 10. 10. How do I know that BioShield® 75 is safe?

BioShield® 75 is also USDA Accepted for use on food contact surfaces…..

BioShield® 75 technology has undergone extensive independent laboratory testing and has a long history of safe use. It is registered with the EPA for all applications in which it is used.
 11. 11. Does this mean I don’t have to clean my products as much or as carefully?

No. in order for BioShield®75 to be most effective, normal cleaning needs to be continued. Cleaning wipes away dead microbes and other dirt that can cover up BioShield®75’s “bed of nails” and diminish its’ ability to kill microbes landing on the treated surface.

… ..
 12. 12. What is the difference between BioShield® 75 and other antimicrobials on the market? Conventional products penetrate living cells and kill by way of poisoning or chemically altering the organism. They are designed to act quickly and dissipate quickly to avoid adverse effects to humans and animals due to their toxic ingredients. Most commercial antimicrobials used for treating building surfaces do a great job of getting a quick kill on bacteria and fungi, although most have a limited spectrum of effectiveness. Heavy metal based antimicrobials, such as silver ion may leach into the environment and lose their effectiveness over time. BioShield 75 takes a totally unique approach. It provides long-term control of growth on treated surfaces. The surface itself is modified to make it antimicrobial active. BioShield 75 helps to prevent BIOFILM BUILDUP….
 13. 13. What is Biofilm?

Biofilm is known to exist on any porous or non-porous surface, where factors for microbial growth are suitable, including pH and temperature.

The propensity for microorganisms to form biofilm on surfaces presents a formidable challenge to maintaining sanitary conditions, especially as it becomes more established.

The resistance of biofilm to sanitizers increases over time as the film matures…..

 14. 14. Biofilm is a Major Cause of Antimicrobial Resistance

Biofilm is a microscopic layer of dead microbes, paint chips, dirt and other debris that build up on a surface and breed the growth of harmful bacteria like staph, MRSA, Swine flu, etc.

80% of all human infections are caused by biofilm….

 15. 15. Forming Biofilm
 16. 16. Biofilm Development over time

In this time lapsed sequence, a Gram-negative bacterium (Pseudomonas strain S61) was allowed to develop as a biofilm on glass slides immersed in nutrient medium containing 1% glucose.

Attached cells can be seen at 3 hours. They then divide and form micro colonies. After 5 hours the development of polysaccharide is clearly seen ( note the arrows ) and it increases as the micro colonies increase in size.

 17. 17. Biofilm in action Biofilm buildup on an irregular surface accumulates over time and offers a difficult to clean microbial food source . BioShield 75 reduces the biofilm buildup making the surface easier to clean with no microbial food source …..
 18. 18. Imperative For Biofilm Control in specific settings

Example – Healthcare and Hospitals

In the United States, it has been estimated that as many as one hospital patient in ten acquires an infection while in the hospital , or 2 million patients a year.

Estimates of the annual cost range from $4.5 billion to $11 billion and up.

Hospital-contracted infections contribute to 99,000 deaths in the U.S. each year.

One third of hospital-contracted infections are considered preventable.

hospital-contracted infections can be acquired due to surface contact

Resistance to antibiotics continues to escalate….

 19. 19. Does BioShield® 75 begin working immediately?

YES! BioShield®75 protection begins working as soon as it is sprayed on and left to dry.

BioShield® 75 begins to work as soon as the microorganism comes into contact with the product surface.

It then works continuously to maintain a consistently lower bio-burden than would be expected on a surface without BioShield® 75 protection.

Under the right conditions, microbes on an untreated surface can double every 20 minutes!

BioShield® 75 is not a disinfectant and is not a substitute for normal cleaning practices……

 20. 20. How long does BioShield® 75 protect a surface?

BioShield® 75 is engineered to provide continuous antimicrobial product protection for ninety (90) days or greater , keeping the products in your home or business cleaner, fresher and safer from harmful bacteria for longer than ever before…..

 21. 21. Is BioShield® 75 safe to be used in food preparation and around people and animals? BioShield® 75 is the only EPA Registered product that is also USDA Accepted for use on food preparation surfaces like cutting boards, countertops, containers, appliances, etc. Extensive testing and a long use history have shown BioShield® 75 to be safe for humans and other mammals. When BioShield® 75 is sprayed on a surface and while wet, it is only as toxic as one-tenth of a Bayer aspirin . And when dry? Completely non-toxic! And while it is impossible to say that no one will ever experience an allergic reaction to anything, it is highly unlikely a negative experience would be observed…..
 22. 22. Does the use of BioShield® 75 cause resistant strains of microorganisms?

NO! Unlike traditional cleaning products, BioShield®75 is NOT a poison . It kills microbes mechanically, so there is no opportunity for the microbe to adapt and build up an immunity to BioShield®75, making it the perfect product for long-term surface protection!

 23. 23. Why should I use BioShield® 75? Organosilane (BioShield 75) antimicrobial has 25 years of safe and effective use. BioShield® 75 is non-poisonous, non-heavy metal based and proven to prevent mold, bacteria, mildew, algae and fungus. If you own a home, building, office, have school children, asthma, allergies or a weakened immune system, you are affected by microbes everyday . Every object that you touch can have substantial microbe infestation . BioShield 75 limits the amount of microbial contamination that you breathe and touch…….
 24. 24. What preparation is necessary prior to applying BioShield®75?

Surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned and residue from cleaning the agents rinsed from the surfaces to be treated.

Once the surface is clean, simply apply following label instructions…..

For best results, let BioShield®75 dry on the surface without wiping with a cloth or towel.

 25. 25. Does BioShield®75 affect the structure of the surface it is applied to?

Yes, it changes all surfaces that it is applied to, creating an antimicrobial surface that prevents mold, fungus, bacteria, mildew and algae from growing.

Since the product is applied by fogging, spraying, or wiping, it can be applied to most surfaces that are not affected by minor contact with moisture.

You should protect silks, rayon, original paintings and unplug any electronics prior to application.

Carpets and flooring should be allowed to dry before walking on the surface…..

 26. 26. What is a Touch Point?

HVAC registers and ducts

Enclosed areas/picks

wall hangings

Ceilings

Some walls

Priority 4 These Touch-Points are rarely touched sometimes never touched. Rarely touch Treat every three years

Exterior surfaces

Window treatments

Mops and brooms.

Vacuum equipment

Carpets and upholstery

Storage areas and closet

Priority 3 These Touch-Points are in areas that are touched weekly.
