  • Trove Tips -1 • Start with a broad search then narrow using filters on Trove • You can browse or search newspapers • Use inverted commas to enclose phrases • Boolean searches • AND, OR and NOT and brackets to create boolean expressions. You can use a minus sign next to the word in place of NOT • Try variations of surnames, e.g. Halloran, O’Halloran Thanks to Jill BallTuesday, 26 June 12
  • Trove Tips -2 • Do a NEAR search for names with the tilde key (~), which will pick up names within 2 workds of each other d.g. “Sharon Brennan”~2 • Search for family name plus town of residence • Don’t restrict searches to local newspapers - interstate papers often reported on news from other areas • Search for photos of Churches, Towns of significance to the family • Check for funeral was well as death notices - there may only have been one Thanks to Jill Ball aka GeniausTuesday, 26 June 12
