PART 1:No Individual Franchisee Business Pages or “I’m Just Not Gonna Have One!”

How would you feel if….…you received mail (the kind that comes in that boxattached to your house) from stores and businesses that arenowhere near where you live?

How would you feel if….…you heard commercials on the radio about eventsnowhere near where you live?…you had to watch commercials on TV about products andservices that weren’t offered in your area? Following National FB Pages can be like getting mail and hearing ads on TV & radio for businesses nowhere near you; not relevant #FranCamp

Maybe something like this?

This is what it can feel like to someone who“Likes” the National Facebook Page of aFranchise because there isn’t a Local Page; lotsof noise about lots of different locations, butno feeling of belonging.

Facebook Business Pages thrive off of conversation andcommunity.I’m not interested in what others have to say about theirexperiences with a business that isn’t the one I would bepatronizing.I want to know what people think Facebook Business Pages thrive off ofand what their experiences have conversation andbeen with the business that community. #FranCamppertains to me, in my area.

It September, 2010,(hey, wasn’t that over a year ago?),Facebook introduced Facebook Places.

So?So, the introduction of Facebook Placesmeant that anyone, anywhere, at anytime(with a smartphone) could…

…create a Facebook Page for YOUR business,without your approval, and without you evenbeing notified. And… Anyone can create a Facebook Page for your business via Facebook Place check-ins with their smartphones. #FranCamp

…anyone could then “check in” toYOUR business’ Facebook Page ANDadd comments. And then…

…anyone on Facebook could stumble uponYOUR business’ Page and askquestions, and complain, Protect your brand on social media by having aand become part of the 95%! place formediaemployees. social your policy in #FranCamp

Unfortunately, you aren’t even in the clearsimply because you are a service industry andcustomers don’t come to a single location –people will still “check in” and add yourbusiness.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THEY ARE SAYING?

Even if you have already created a FacebookBusiness Page, that doesn’t mean a FacebookPlace Page is not out there for your business.

Now would be a good time to start a Facebooksearch (http://facebook.com/search) for thename and location of your business. If you already have an establishedPage, you can claim the rogue PlacePage then merge it with yourexisting Page. If you already have your Place claimed and didn’t merge it right away, just navigate to your Place and click “Merge with existing Page.”

If you don’t already have a Facebook Business Page, and you didn’tfind one, it’s only a matter of time before one gets created for you.Don’t delay the inevitable.
