Sabyasachi at the Indian Couture Week 2013

  1. 1. Sabyasachi at the Indian Couture Week 2013 Anju Modi and Sabyasachi Mukherjee opened the fourth edition of the PCJ Delhi Couture Week 2013 yesterday. The five-day fashion extravaganza, hot on the heels of the India Bridal Fashion week, promises to be quite the treat for Delhi fashionistas, if Sabya’s collection is any indication of things to come. Named ‘Opium,’ the collection had a bold vintage feel, with the liberal use of guipure, cutwork, appliqué and fine embroidery in floral, paisley and traditional geometric motifs. The silhouettes used were mostly ethnic and ethnic-inspired, and accessorized with traditional jewellery such as the maang tika and the nath to accentuate the old world charm of the outfits. Men sported turbans with long decorative tails in sheer, embroidered fabric. The palette was mostly nude, showcasing rich creams, earthy beiges and textured tans with a few reds to offer dramatic contrast. The sepia tone was elevated from drab to grand by subtle sequin-work and the gorgeous textural work on the fabrics, which were the real stars of the show. All in all, the bandhgala achkans, shimmery sarees and layered jodas in the collection were regal without bingeing on the bling, but the embroidery and the color palette were a bit reminiscent of Sabya’s sombre 2012 Delhi Couture Week finale collection.
