Earth Hour was created with the idea that a diverse group of community, government, corporate and nongovernmental organizations would join together to heighten awareness about climate change and to inspire consumers and businesses to take practical actions to reduce their own carbon footprints.
Cities around the world joined together to literally turn off the lights for one hour to symbolize their commitment to finding climate change solutions.
