DAY 1Auntie Sarah’s HouseAlexandria, Virginia(thumbs up)
Dear Hayden,I arrived at your Auntie Sarah’shouse just fine. She is sooooonice. She’s a busy lady, so I askedif I could write this letter describingour adventures instead of her. Ithink it will be more personal thatway. Plus, I can tell you what Ireally think!! As soon as I arrived she let merelax on the couch and watch TV. II think she’s a bit of a health nutbecause she only had grapes anddiet root beer. That’s okay.
Dear Hayden,Auntie Sarah took me with her onerrands today. We did a lot of thesame things that you do at home.We went to the grocery store andthe Target. This is a picture of mein her car with the seat belt on.p.s. How come you didn’t send meany extra clothes?
DAY 7Orioles baseball gameBaltimore, Maryland(thumbs up)
Dear Hayden,Today I had MUCH more fun withAuntie Sarah than I did the otherday running errands. We went to a Baltimore Oriole’sbaseball game. It was COOL. Ieven got to eat barbecuesandwiches and baked beans anddrink root beer. While I was there, the BEST thing happened…
. . . Your Auntie Sarah CAUGHT abaseball. It was awesome. Shehad to fight the guy next to her, butwhen he saw the fire in her eyes,he decided to let go of the ball. Ithink she’s going to send thebaseball home as a present foryou. p.s. The ball was hit by JohnnyDamon, the famous Boston RedSox player…
DAY 15Airplane ride toPalm Springs, California(thumbs down)
Dear Hayden,Today, Auntie Sarah and I took aplane ride to California. My tummyfelt a little queasy on the airplane,so I kept the barf bag close by…just in case. They don’t serve food onairplanes anymore, so I dranksoda water and ate pretzels. Auntie Sarah didn’t have to payfor an airplane ticket for mebecause I was able to fit in thepocket in front of her seat. Cool,eh? She’s very thrifty, I think.
DAY 15 (Later thatday)Relaxing at the ResortLa Quinta, California(thumbs up)
This resort is AWESOME. It’smore awesome now that AuntieSarah’s room was upgraded. Shehad BUGS in her bed. It wasgross, but the hotel staff happilyput her in a beautiful new room. These pictures show me in thecactus garden riding a terracottamule and sitting on the stepsleading to Auntie Sarah’s suite. This place is GREAT!
Here I am at one of the 42 poolsIn the resort. I lounged most ofday with Auntie Sarah beside thepool. She read books and chattedwith the other nice ladies.I spent quite a bit of time on theinner tube. By the way, I REALLYneed to have some color on mybackside!!P.S. I also need some swimtrunks!
Here are more pictures of me. Imet some cute little girls whowanted to take a picture with me.mm MM mm.Those cactuses are really prickly.Auntie Sarah thought it would be acute picture, so I didn’t mind. (Ithink she may be going a littleoverboard with this project, don’tyou?? OH well, I’m having a greattime, anyway.
Here’s a picture of me in bed. Itwas HUGE bed for such a littleguy like me. Auntie Sarah let mestay up VERY late. Like I said, sheis SOOOO cool!!You are very lucky!

Today was great! We went to thezoo with some of Auntie Sarah’sfriends. The elephants were myfavorite.
. . . More pictures of me at the zoo!The camel was neat. The turtle was just okay. But then, Auntie Sarah laid medown on the ground and acaterpillar crawled on my face.If you look carefully, you can stillsee the caterpillar juice. It doesn’tseem to wash off.
DAY 26Redskins GameWashington, DC(thumbs up) GO !!! IN S SK
We had a great time, here, too.We ate hamburgers and chips andyelled and sang and did the wave.Sadly, they lost. The big guy in the red shirt wasAuntie Sarah’s date to the game.(JUST KIDDING!!)
Auntie Sarah taught me a LOTabout Washington, DC.This is the Jefferson Memorial.Thomas Jefferson was our 3rdpresident (after Washington, andAdams). He was a brilliant man –an inventor, writer of theDeclaration of Independence, founder of the University ofVirginia, architect. . .(She can talk for hours about thisstuff…. *sigh*)
Here is the WashingtonMonument. It is 555 feet, 5 and 1/8th inchestall. When it was first opened tothe public in 1888, it had a steamelevator, and only the men wereallowed to take it. The womenwere forced to walk the 898 stepsto the top. They said it was “muchtoo dangerous” for ladies.Women are strong. I don’t thinkthey cared.
These are all Smithsonianmuseums. The picture in the right-hand corner is of the NationalMuseum of the Native American. Itjust opened a month or two ago.Hayden, the next time you comevisit Auntie Sarah, you HAVE to gothere.
Here is the Department ofEducation. It wasn’t much to lookat, but I thought your teacher mightlike it.
. . . And of course, the Capitol. It’s an AMAZING building. It wasfinished in 1800. As you look at thepicture, the left side of the dome iswhere the Senate meets, and theright side of the dome is where theHouse of Representatives meet. There are 435 members in theHouse and 100 members in theSenate. You WILL be tested. *wink*
. . . I made Auntie Sarah takepictures of a bunch of statues. Ithought they were cool. The one on the bottom is ofPresident Grant. (I THINK he wasambidextrous. –Do you know whatthat means??)
This is the Supreme Courtbuilding. It’s the highest court inthe land.Quiz question:Who was the only President toalso be a Supreme Court Justice.Hint: He was also the fattestPresident of the United States.
Library of Congress – It’s HUGE! In fact, I believe it’s the largest library in the WORLD!
. . . Auntie Sarah had to stick thecamera out the sunroof of her carto get this picture of the WhiteHouse.Yep, that’s where President Bushand his wife live.Question: Who was the onlyPresident NOT to live in the WhiteHouse?Hint: He had false teeth.
