  • 22. Key Observations and TrendsMobile Apps Continue To Be At The Center of Productivity Innovation • Hybrid* apps are gaining traction, while native app dev is still strong. Mobile Technologies • HTML5 rapid development tools are on the rise. • Mobile BI is going mainstream. • Development organization went through HTML5 training. ITS Internal Capabilities • Piloting iOS, Android, and Blackberry hybrid containers. • Some internal mobile app are already using HTML5 and are hybrid. • iPhone dominates at 63% and trending up. Internal Device Landscape • BlackBerry accounts for only 13% and dropping steadily each month. • iPads account for 15% and trending up. • 40+ mobile apps in our internal App Store. Internal Mobile Apps Metrics • 61,000 app downloads. 170,000 usage/transactions per month. • Mobile Time is the highest used app, following by DNET and DU.* Hybrid mobile app is a cross-platform (HTML5 and jQuery) app that resides in a native device container, allowing it to interact with a device and be downloadable from app store23 Copyright © 2012 Deloitte Development LLC. • 23. Mobile TechnologiesHybrid Apps, HTML5 Tools, and Mobile BI A hybrid app is a native, downloadable app, that runs some of its user interface in an embedded browser To the end user, a hybrid app is almost indistinguishable from a native one—yet, there are some shortcomings in the ―feel‖ (somewhat slower responsiveness and stickier transitions) Mobile apps that use Web technologies are easier to build and deploy on multiple platforms From a business perspective, it makes a lot of sense to adopt HTML5 as early as possible  Roambi Analytics transforms reports, spreadsheets, and data Into Secure and Immersive Analytics on iPhone, iPad, or Blackberry  Roambi Flow is a technology that allows for the combination of Analytics and Analysis in a single interface Copyright © 2012 Deloitte Development LLC. Alaska Airlines Alaska Airlines Mobile Website for iPhone & Android for iPhone & AndroidIdeaMobile makes a lot of things in life effortless, and we thought flying should be, too. T ogetherwith Alaska Airlines, we built native app and mobile web solutions to help on-the-go tr avelersstay connected through every step of the travel experience—anytime, anywher e.InsightAvailable for iOS and Android, the apps streamline the entire travel experience, with easyaccess to seating, check in, notes, and alert functionalities. Within the app, jet-setters canpull down the window shade to access flights, account details, and contact info. The airline further extended its reach with a sleek new mobile website. Built from theground up, the site’s interface and UX are a departure from the airline’s earlier sitescrapersolution. It’s super fast and super flexy (with an adaptive, responsive layout for mobiledevices), and it was built for the busy traveler, featuring large, tappable areas; designs thatrender well on a dimly-lit screen; and offline caching of travel info.ImpactWe helped redefine the travel experience while reflecting the airline’ s unwavering commitmentto customer service. We incorporated complex airline industry rules with simplicity, andcollaborated with Alaska Airlines’ IT department on the necessary web services. Last butnot least, the new pay for bag featur e in m.alaskaair.com marks the airline’ s first foray intomCommerce, paving the way for future initiatives. Mobile Web 52
