  • 17. The Cemetery of Old Mission San Luis Rey In the shadow of the historic church is the original cemetery where burials span from the 1800s to the present. Burial plots and niches can still bepurchased at Old Mission San Luis Rey; however cemetery property will not be available forever since there is limited space for cemetery expansion. A Community of Franciscan Friars call the Old Mission home with some working in the Parish, the Old Mission, and the Cemetery, while others are retired.
