  • 1.  Inflammation of Mastoid
  • 2. 1. Acute mastoidtis a. b. 2. Catarrhal mastoiditis Coalescent mastoiditis Chronic mastoiditis
  • 3.  Inadequate drainage of exudate  Inadequate antibiotic treatment of AOM
  • 4.  This stage follows the stage of suppuration in ASOM.  There will be congestion of the mucosa of the mastoid which leads to aggravation of symptoms.  Clinical manifestations:     Severe pain in the mastoid region Otorrhoea Deafness Tenderness in the mastoid antrum
  • 5.  The air cells of the mastoid coalesce & mastoid cavity becomes converted in to a bag of pus [empyema].  Clinical manifestations:     Severe pain Otorrhoea Tenderness in the mastoid antrum Oedema and sagging of external auditory canal
  • 6.  It occurs with CSOM.
  • 7.  Antibiotics  Myringotomy  Mastoidectomy
