    The Apache Indian were formed in the 17th century.
    They came from the Alaskan region, Canada, and portions of the American Southwest.
  • The Apache tribe consists of six subtribes: the Western Apache, Chiricahua, Mescalero, Jicarilla, Lipan and Kiowa.
  • The Apache Indians lived in tepees and wickiups.
    They mostly ate Buffalo and meat and used their hides as protective clothing.
  • They call themselves Inde, or Nide which means “The People”
  • One tradition of the Apache tribe was Sunrise dancing.
  • As of 1940, there was a record of only 35 Apache Indians living in the state of Oklahoma, and in 1970 a record of about 1,500 were documented in New Mexico.
