Twitter - Why Should I Give a F? - Presentation Transcript

  1. Why should I give a F?
  2. Anything?
  3. Come on?
  4. Still nothing?
  5. You’re not alone CNN http://mashable.com/2009/04/17/cnn-twitter-poll/
  6. First, what is it? Twitter provides you with 140 characters to say what you are doing – or really, to say whatever you want
  7. For most, the key component is “followers”
  8. As Twitter serves as a communication tool…. Having a conversation with individuals: Keeping tabs on friends: Using followers as a panel:
  9. Keeping tabs can be a little silly…
  10. Or very silly…
  11. And maybe a little egotistical…
  12. But at the end of the day, it is whatever you make of it
  13. You can be yourself. http://mashable.com/2009/04/20/twitter-strategy/
  14. You can be on behalf of the brand you work for. http://mashable.com/2009/04/20/twitter-strategy/
    • .
You can represent your personal brand – blogging, telling jokes, writing stories, etc.
  15. You can play make-believe. http://mashable.com/2009/04/20/twitter-strategy/
  16. ” You can be a RSS feed (you’re not really a person at all) http://mashable.com/2009/04/20/twitter-strategy/
  17. So without followers Twitter is useless?
  18. No. You can always search any topic to find people talking, and if you want, you can reach out to them.
  19. And you can join pre-existing conversations about a topic
  20. But let’s say you don’t want to participate, why should you still care about the statements and conversations of a random person?
  21. I don’t know, I don’t
  22. 1,382% year-over-year growth in February 2009 .
  23. Twitter has become a searchable database of what is happening right now
  24.
  25.
  26.
  27. Google search is inherently slower because it is determined over time
  28. Google and Twitter track trends differently VS Based on searches Based on statements
  29. VS News and Blogs Statements & Conversations The larger difference is when you want to look closer at a trend, you can have an immediate conversation about it
  30. Is Twitter going to replace Google?
  31. VS Google Twitter Relevancy is still important.
  32. Rumors can be spread and retweeted without a proper fact check.
  33. How do we use real-time?
  34.
  35.
  36.
  37.
  38.
  39.
  40.
  41. Tools to answer questions
  42. The possible future? People value that even if they have zero followers they are contributing to the twitter universe – they are speaking to the twitter search engines, to the twitter trackers. They are influencing the world’s pulse.
  43. . One final point on why Twitter matters.
  44. Twitter’s success in limiting people to 140 characters is counter-intuitive to the web. We have always been able to ramble on forever without any limits, but people have embraced Twitter despite its limitations.
