The document describes plans for the opening of a film about basketball. It includes details about shots that will be used, such as a blurry opening that focuses on a person bouncing a basketball. It describes scenes where a smaller player is beaten and helped up by teammates. The main character will be seen sitting blurred on a bench before standing up to make impressive shots and moves against opponents in slow motion. The opening will take place on a basketball court and use varied sized actors, slow motion effects, intense sound, and key lighting with some low-key lighting on opponents. Feedback suggested not dragging scenes too long and adding dramatic opening scenes while keeping the action believable by merging sports and action genres.

Pitch & Feedback
Plans on my film opening (Still under construction)
Basically, at the beginning of the film opening it starts off by it being very blurry
and the only sound being heard is the sound made from bouncing a basketball.
Then after a few seconds the vision becomes focused and clear and the audience
can now see a shot of the back of a person at the side of the camera bouncing a
basketball within a basketball court – (the court isn’t properly shown yet). The
person bouncing the basketball then runs off, straight after this the shot then
changes to a mid-shot of the person attempting to dribble past one of the
opponents. After the person does dribble past an opponent he attempts to do so to
the other one but fails due to the other person being physically bigger than him.
The relatively smaller person is then shot falling to the ground, there is probably
then a low angle shot from the smaller person’s position facing the big opponent.
There is then low key lighting on him.
That’s when the team mates of the smaller person come to help him up. That’s
when at the background you then suddenly see the main character of the film
opening, sitting on the bench behind them – (but initially its blurry before it
comes into focus). It then cuts to the ball somehow bouncing/rolling towards the
main characters feet, up till now the face still hasn’t been showed. The main
character stops the ball and picks it up – (here there’s a mid-shot of his hand
picking up the ball). That’s when he stands up, picks up the ball and analysis his
opponents through a series of long and mid-range shots, he then dribbles past
one his opponents – (this scene along with many others will be slowed down to
make it look epic and that he has powers) and many others. He is then stopped by
the last person in the opposing team, he does one last epic dribble, somehow
jumps on his back aiming to do a slam dunk – (this will all be shown as a slow
motion).

Location, Props, Actors, Sound & Lighting
All scenes will be aimed to be taken place in a sort of basketball court, preferably
the one in school where most students take part in the class P.E. The entire court
may not be used to its full extent due to the amount of actors taking part in the
film opening.
The actors that I want to be taking part should try to vary in sizes to show
authority in some scenes due to size differences between people.
I personally have one main basic technical idea to make my film opening a selling
point and a very good film opening, and that is to create the illusion that the main
character seems to have the ability to physically move faster than everyone else,
making it look like time has slowed down for his opponents but not for him.
Letting him have the upper hand in the game. This would be done through a
series of turning some scenes into slow-motion while others would be some of the
actors actually doing things in slow motion.
Basically the non-diegetic sound being played would be intense, thrilling and
particularly loud so as to imply epic and intense moments in some scenes.
As for lighting I was considering there being a constant natural key lighting but
the with the exceptions of some low key lighting once or twice on some actors
such as the large opponents to signify that they are the “bad guys” in the film
opening.

Actual Feedback
From my interview I had a lot of comments of the upcoming film opening I was
about to produce, I had helpful comments like:
While I’m directing the film opening I should have in mind that I shouldn’t
drag some specific scenes for too long.
Add some very dramatic scenes at the beginning if possible.
Make what is happening believable – (as in scenes like fight scenes, etc.)
The only comment that I could consider negative was the one that suggested that
the genre sport shouldn’t really be included in an Action movie. But even so, that
is an opinion and I will still continue the attempt of merging both genres together
to get a very good film opening.
