  4. 4. Mindanao: The Region in Constant Conflict<br />Six peace processes means 6 major Conflicts present in the country….4 of which are very much present in Mindanao.<br />

The Peace Processes<br />MNLF – GRP –started in 1976, signed peace agreement in 1996 and still on going up to now<br />MILF – GRP – most visible, started formally in 1997 with Ceasefire Agreement, 2008 was the last bloody encounter between the forces<br />CPP/NPA/NDF – GRP –now engaged in peace talks, off and on relationship since 1986<br />RPMM - GRP –started in 2005, now stalled <br />
  6. 6. While all the talks are on going…the hard realities remain…<br />Biases and prejudices still persist amongst our people<br />Communities affected by conflict are becoming poorer everyday<br />
  7. 7. While all the talks are on going…the hard realities remain…<br />Remains the most undeveloped…even if the communities are already tired of war and violence, yet the cycle of violence and war still occurs every two to three years<br />
  8. 8. Two Basic Questions<br />How can we contribute to resolve conflict and promote peace?<br />What in particular should we focus ourselves to promote peace, whether there is a peace process or none? (is the most important question for institutions and persons who want contribute to peace in our region?) <br />
  9. 9. Four Roles of TVI’s<br />In Peace Education <br />In Peace Talks / Peace Process<br />In Post Conflict<br />In Promoting Peace<br />In Enterprising Peace<br />
  10. 10. In Peace Education<br />Understanding Mindanao History; understanding Moro and Lumads of Mindanao<br />Mainstream subjects with terms related to conflict and peace<br />Mainstream skills on conflict management and conflict resolution<br />OPKORS for TVIs<br />
  11. 11. In Peace Talks<br />Support the Peace Process<br />Develop models of TV systems in conflict areas / IDP camps<br />Work in partnership with LGU’s, with AFP and other NGO’s in the area<br />
  12. 12. In Post Conflict<br />Demobilization and Reintegration, Rehabilitation.. The Bigger, the Most Challenging Task<br />CAFGU’s, MILF Fighters, The NPA Fighters , The RPMM, community organized militias and the militias organized, maintained and expanded by political warlords.. <br />
  13. 13. In Promoting Peace<br />Organize TVIs activities (or even fundraising) promoting peace and encourage interfaith and tri-people dialogue like Sports for peace, FUN RUN (run for peace), Bike for peace, etc.<br />
  14. 14. In Enterprising Peace<br />Promoting peace by promoting/marketing products and handmade crafts made collectively, creatively and by peaceful means<br />Organize Fair Trade<br />
  15. 15. <ul><li>Helping demobilize a hundred thousand militias and making them productive members of our society (mnlf-gem model)</li></ul>Challenges Ahead<br />Helping promote an entrepreneurship spirit among tri-peoples of Mindanao thereby influencing skeptics to creatively discourage them from taking arms thus cutting the cycle of violence and war culture…<br />
