  1. 1. NETS: National Educational Technology Standards –developed by the International Society of TechnologyEducation (ISTE). One set of standards is for Teachers(NETS-T) and another set for Students (NETS-S).
  2. 2. NETS-Students include 6 Criteria: 1. Creativity and Innovation: Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. 2. Communication and Collaboration: Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. 3. Research and Information Fluency: Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.

Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making: Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.5. Digital Citizenship: Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior.6. Technology Operations and Concepts: Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations.
  4. 4.  Any use of technology (or computers) in a lesson or unit should meet at least one of the NETS-Students criteria. These technology criteria must also be aligned with content standards and grade level. Teachers must also become proficient in the use of education technology in order to help students attain the NET Standards. The NETS-Teacher help guide the professional development of teachers (and teachers-in-training) to move toward effective technology integration for developing digital literacy.
