We praise Him and seekHis help and forgiveness, and seek refuge in Him from ourown evil self and from our misdeeds. No one can misguidewhom Allah guides, and no one can guide him whom Heallows to remain in misguidance. And I testify that there is no deity besides Allah, and Itestify that Mohammad (peace be upon him) is His slaveand Messenger.O ye who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, anddie not except in a state of Islam.O mankind! reverence your Guardian-Lord, who createdyou from a single person, created, of like nature, His mate, and from them twain scattered (like seeds) countless menand women;- reverence Allah, through whom ye demand

It is a month of mercy, forgiveness andbeing released from hellfire. We are urged to be generousin this month and our Creator also shows His infinitegenerosity by way of His mercy and forgiveness andreleases us from Hell fire.A hadith is often quoted on this issue whose authenticityhas been questions.

A great month has come over you; a blessedmonth; a month in which is a night better than a thousandmonths; month in which Allah has made it compulsoryupon you to fast by day, and voluntary to pray by night.Whoever draws nearer (to Allah) by performing any of the(optional) good deeds in (this month) shall receive the samereward as performing an obligatory deed at any other time, and whoever discharges an obligatory deed in (this month)shall receive the reward of performing seventy obligationsat any other time. And he was not sure about it.Several other collections of hadith have reported thishadith, all of them from Salman Al Farsi, may Allah bepleased with him. : ‫ٝجُكذ٣ع ػؼ٤ق جإلع٘حد ُؼِط٤ٖ ٛٔح‬The chain of transmission of this hadith is weak due to tworeasons.‫-1ك٤ٚ جٗوطحع ق٤ع ُْ ٣غٔغ عؼ٤ذ ذٖ جُٔغ٤د ٖٓ عِٔحٕ جُلحسع٢ سػ٢ هللا‬ .ٚ٘‫ػ‬1. For example the division of the month into threeperiods of ten days each, that of mercy, forgiveness andrelease from hell fire. There is no proof for this divisionsince the favors of Allah are very wide and the entiremonth of Ramadan is full of mercy and forgiveness. Allahreleases many people from the hell fire every night and atthe time of fasting as is proved by other ahadith.) ‫ٝأ٣ؼح ً : ك٢ جُكذ٣ع ( ٖٓ ضوشخ ك٤ٚ ذخظِس ٖٓ جُخ٤ش ًٖٔ أدٟ كش٣ؼس‬، ٙ‫ٝٛزج ال دُ٤َ ػِ٤ٚ ذَ جُ٘حكِس ٗحكِس ٝجُلش٣ؼس كش٣ؼس ك٢ سٓؼحٕ ٝؿ٤ش‬And similarly the statement that “whoever draws nearer (toAllah) by performing any of the (optional) good deeds in(this month) shall receive the same reward as performingan obligatory deed at any other time” is not supported byevidence since a voluntary act is a voluntary act and anobligatory act is an obligatory act whether performed in themonth of Ramadan or at other times.‫ٝك٢ جُكذ٣ع أ٣ؼح ً : ( ٖٓ أدٟ ك٤ٚ كش٣ؼس ًحٕ ًٖٔ أدٟ عرؼ٤ٖ كش٣ؼس ك٤ٔح‬٢‫عٞجٙ ) ٝك٢ ٛزج جُطكذ٣ذ ٗظش ، ئر جُكغ٘س ذؼشش أٓػحُٜح ئُ٠ عرؼٔحتس ػؼق ك‬‫سٓؼحٕ ٝؿ٤شٙ ، ٝال ٣خض ٖٓ رُي ئال جُظ٤حّ كإ أؾشٙ ػظ٤ْ دٕٝ ضكذ٣ذ‬١‫ذٔوذجس ، ُِكذ٣ع جُوذع٢ ( ًَ ػَٔ جذٖ آدّ ُٚ ئال جُظّٞ كاٗٚ ُ٢ ٝأٗح أؾض‬ .ٚ٘‫ذٚ ) ٓطلن ػِ٤ٚ ٖٓ قذ٣ع أذ٢ ٛش٣شز سػ٢ هللا ػ‬Similarly the reward of an obligatory act being equal toperforming seventy obligatory acts is open to discussionsince a good deed carries ten times to seven hundred timesthe reward whether done during the month of Ramadan oroutside of it. The only exception to this is the act of fasting
  • 7. whose reward is great and without any limits as mentionedthe Hadith Qudsi reported by Abu Huraira, may Allah bepleased with him and agreed upon by both Imam Bukhariand Imam Muslim. The hadith mentions Allah as sayingthat every act of the son of Adam is for him except thefasting because it is for me and I will give a reward for it.s، ‫ك٤٘رـ٢ جُكزس ٖٓ جألقحد٣ع جُؼؼ٤لس ، ٝجُطػرص ٖٓ دسؾطٜح هرَ جُطكذ٣ع ذٜح‬‫ٝجُكشص ػِ٠ جٗطوحء جألقحد٣ع جُظك٤كس ك٢ كؼَ سٓؼحٕ ، ٝكن هللا جُؿٔ٤غ‬ . ٍ‫ٝضورَ ٓ٘ح جُظ٤حّ ٝجُو٤حّ ٝعحتش جألػٔح‬ ِْ‫ٝهللا أػ‬We should avoid the weak ahadith and confirm their statusbefore mentioning them. Improving the prayers by joining the congregation withthe first takbeerIf a person offers prayers for forty days joining thecongregation with the first takbeer, for the sake of Allahonly, he achieves safety from two things: from the hellfire and from hypocrisy. This is a requirement of faith that you should be keen toperform. These two hundred prayers are like two hundredsteps to the paradise. Is the commodity of Allah notvaluable enough that you show eagerness for it? The wayto achieve this is to reduce the burdens of this world forthis period of time. You must ask Allah with each prayerthat He allows you to perform the next prayer whilejoining the congregation with the first takbeer.Improving the prayers during day will lead to the

If you falter one day, then resume your scheduleand do not allow yourself to be bored. This is (a way to)paradise.
