  2. WHO IS CHILD WORKER?
    • According to Turkish Civil Law;
    • Everyone under age 18 is called child
    • W ho are between 15 - 24 considered as young workers
    • 15 is the limit for defining child workers
  3. ACCORDING TO CURRENT EU LAW
    • C hildren who are 14 and below , and has completed primary education defined as child workers
    • W ho are between 15 - 18 defined as young workers
    • It is banned to employ children under age 15!!!!
  4. EMPLOYERS PREFER CH I LD WORKERS
    • C hild labour is cheap
    • C hildren are compatible for some jobs
    • They can’t seek for their rights
    • They don’t look for more money and insurance.

    • Employing children
    • I n the street
    • A gricultural fields as seasonal workers
    • S hoe polishing
    • C ar repa i ring
    • F urniture and leather clothing industries
  8. CHILD WORKERS ARE IN DANGER
    • Addiction
    • Malnourishment
    • Harassment
    • Between 1998-2000; 16804 had occupation al accidents and illnesses, 37 of them died
  9. EU AND PROJECTS ABOUT CHILD LABOUR
    • IPEC (International Programmed on the Elimination of Child Labour)
    • Since 1992, Turkish government dwelling upon two projects with ILO (International Labour Organization)
    • 101 action programmes were implemented
    • Reached 50.000 child workers
    • %60 of them withdrawn from work and placed in schools
    • 250.000 families have received counselling assistance

    • To eradict the worst forms of child labour till 2015
    • To reduce child labour till 2007
    • To prevent children work in dangerous areas who are under risk
  12. OCCUPATIONAL TRAINING CENTERS
    • 346 centers
    • Children have apprenticeship training for 3 years
    • A fter training, they have their certificates
    • Only 123.000 children over 2 million 400 thousand can go to these centers
  13. THE 8TH FIVE YEAR DEVELOPMENT PLAN
    • To implement convention on the rights of the children
    • To eliminate caus es forcing children to work
    • To e liminate the constraints that prevent children from attending school
