Nice day today!

  1. 1. Nice day today! Need some feedback?
  2. 2. Oscillating or persistent?
  3. 3. How do I tell that was oscillating 1. The wind is coming from the shore 2. The headers and lifts are very obvious
  4. 4. Rules of thumb for oscillating • • • • • • • • • Tack the headers Sail towards the next mark Look for the gusts Covering is not a priority Look forward for your next move Avoid the lay lines Consolidate your gain-use the gusts to get back to the fleet Go for a decent result and not for the first place Sail the course, not the fleet – pressure is different all over the course so don’t panic about other boats if they are lifted on another part of the course
  5. 5. Was there general trend to the wind during the day?
  6. 6. Importance of Line Bias today?
  7. 7. What about the course bias?
  8. 8. Downwind Lessons: • Look behind frequently for pressure • Plan ahead – leeward mark rounding, will I have room? • First mark onto run – lift on starboard = port gybe down wind lift on port = starboard gybe downwind
  9. 9. Do not be a…. Make your own decisions Create the space to tack if you want to
  10. 10. NEVER GIVE UP!! • When it is this shifty, races can change in a second (last race of the day!!)
