  3. 3. WHAT IS SEO?    SEO is the process of getting your website to work better with the search engines like Google, Yahoo! and Bing by using choice keywords and key phases . Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search results. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content, HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.
  4. 4. TYPES OF SEO: Basically there are 2 type of Seo techniques used.. White-Hat-Techniques  Black-Hat Techniques   One more is Gray Hat Techniques  White-Hat-Techniques  Those websites which are optimized in accordance to rules and policies of search engines are said to be using WhiteHat-Techniques SEO. E.g:- Free Links 
  5. 5.  Black Hat Techniques:-   Most famous SEO type is the Black Hat one. More than 70% of SEO today is based on this only. Once found guilty of Black Hat, the website may be blocked or severely penalized. E.g:- Link Exchange,Paid Links  Gray Hat Techniques:-  Gray being a shade in between white and black has properties of both colors. Gray Hat Techniques are those ways through which websites are optimized using tactics that don’t exactly follow the policies of search engines but somehow manage to escape from the eyes of algorithms.  
  6. 6.  There are 2 different pages used. Such as: Off-Page  On-Page  Off-Page SEO is the method of earning backlinks from other websites in order to enhance the ranking of the site. On-Page SEO is the process of optimizing a website which includes on-site work such as writing content, title, description, Alt tag, Meta tags. 
  7. 7.    A spider or crawler which is a component of a SE gathers listings by automatically "crawling" the web Based on this data, the SE then indexes the pages and ranks the websites Major SEs that index pages using spiders: Google, Yahoo, AltaVista, MSN, AOL, Lycos
  8. 8.  Page Rank is that it has very little to do with your SEO ranking for a target keyword phrase. Page Rank is a number that Google generates to indicate the overall value of a website in relation to all other websites on the web

Title tags - Important in optimizing rankings - Must keywords in title to be ranked no. 1 - Should have the exact keyword you use for the page - Every single web page must have its own title tag - You can use up to 65 characters - example http://www.ebay.com/ Meta description tags - Displayed below the title in search results - Use dynamic, promotional language - Use keywords 3. Alt tags - Include keywords in your alt tags 4. Keywords - The most important in optimizing rankings - Research what keywords are people searching for using tools e.g. Word tracker (www.wordtracker.com) - Always have text in your page: at least 100 words
