Results•Both color and COD removal were increasedcontinuously with increasing ozonation.•Reaction pH also influences on the performanceof the ozonation process colorCOLOR:•Color removal for ASP treated ozonatedsample at pH 5, 7 and 9 were 22, 12 and 53percent respectively. An optimal color removalwas obtained at 9 pH after 54 minutesozonation
    13. 13. continued•For 54 minutes ozonation time, the colorremoval at pH 5, 7, 9 and for original pH of theraw ozonated sample was 29, 46, 29 and 40percent respectively. An optimal color removalof 46 percent at pH 7 is evident at 54 minutesozone exposure.

    21. 21. ConclusionsOzonation of raw poultry leachatesample showed greater color removalthan COD with increasing ozonationtime. Sample pH also influenced theperformance of ozonation. In thiscase, optimal pH appeared to be 9 forCOD and 7 for color.
    22. 22. Continued…. Post ozonation of ASP treated wastewater resulted in color and COD removal with increasing ozonation bubbling time. Varied pH influence the treatment to a great extend.Maximum color and COD removal was obtainedat 54 min ozone contact time at 5, 7 and 9 pHfor raw and ASP ozonated samples.

Among varied pH maximum COD and color removal was obtained at 9 pH for raw and ASP ozonated samples due to production of hydroxyl radicals at elevated pH.Electrical energy comparisondemonstrated that Integratedapproach is more cost effective andfeasible option than AOPs alone
    24. 24. According to the results, it can beconcluded that integrated treatment(biological and ozone) are moreeffective in COD and color removalthan ozone alone.

RECOMMENDATIONSBest cost effective treatment option forpoultry leachate sample is the integration ofbiological and ozone rather than ozone alone.Recommended optimum pH is 9 forintegrated treatment of poultry leachatesample which should be kept in considerationbecause above pH 9 decrease in COD andcolor removal takes place
