In addition to raw materials and work in process, there are support items such as fuels,equipment’s, parts , tools and more . Logistics = Supply + Materials management +Distribution

  5. 5. Green logistics  Logistics is the integrated management of all the activities required to move products through the supply chain. For a typical product this supply chain extends from a raw material source through the production and distribution system to the point of consumption and the associated reverse logistics. The logistical activities comprise freight transport, storage, inventory management, materials handling and all the related information processing.  The main objective of green logistics is to co- ordinate these activities in a way that meets customer requirements at minimum cost

Disadvantages of logistics  Trust issues may arise in logistics  In logistics there is risk of exposing confidential data  Investment on logistics assets, such as physical distribution centers or information networks, usually needs large and lump sum costs, which involves financial risks  Logistics include hidden costs . Although outsourcing most of the times is cost-effective at times the hidden costs involved in signing a contract while signing a contract across international boundaries may pose a serious threat.  In case you do not choose a right partner for outsourcing, some of the common problem areas include stretched delivery time frames, sub-standard quality output and inappropriate categorization of responsibilities.
