    2. 2. THE TASKSDuring this unit on Romeo and Juliet you will we asked tocreate two pieces of assessment:A 10-12 minutes radio play of R&J for a Year 11 audienceA group oralBoth of these tasks require an effective use of GROUPWORKfor you to be successful.
    3. 3. WHY GROUPWORK?Students learn best when they are activelyinvolved in the process.Researchers report that, regardless of the subjectmatter, students working in small groups tend tolearn more of what is taught and retain it longerthan when the same content is presented in otherinstructional formats.Students who work in collaborative groups alsoappear more satisfied with their classes.

GROUP WORKEXPECTATIONSFor your task on the Radio play you will be taught theskills required AND you will be assessed as a groupon your final product.It is important that to work well in your team andlearn skills that allow you to discuss, create, analyseand synthesise the text of R&J.In addition, you will be asked to discuss the processyou went through in this unit, in a Group Oral,although you will be assessed individually on yourcontributions to the group discussion.

THE PROCESSIf your teacher has not yet done so, you will be given a TeamWork Quiz to fill in about your group work experiences.From this you will be assigned a group to work with.We will spend time each lesson allowing you to get to knowyour group’s strengths and weaknesses and setting smalltasks so you can start to develop your skills when workingwith each other.

STEPS TO CREATING AGREAT GROUP!Below are a list of activities that your teacher will ask you tocomplete during the following few lessons:Firstly, spend some time with your group establishing howeach of you works best, how you tend to work with othersand how you would like to work with others. Knowing oneanother well as learners will help when allocating tasks androles.Setting your ground rules.
