Sources of Information● Information source which is RTWPs send to PTWC and JMA is tidal gauges, DART sensors, buoys, news bulletins, telegrams, telephones, and CTBTO. DART: Deep-ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunami CTBTO: the Commission for the nuclear-Test Ban Treaty Organization
Works of PTWC and JMA● PTWC and JMA determine size of earthquakes and possibility for tsunamis.● It takes 15-20 minutes to analyze information about earthquakes.● Possibility for tsunamis depends on the location of its epicenter.
National Agencies● National agencies also receive information and send it to PTWC and JMA.● Sources of information is seismic centers, buoys, and news bulletins.
Sending Warning● Warning of tsunamis is sent via radio, television, SMS, e-mail, bells, megaphones, or loud-speakers.● Some countries conduct an evacuation drill.
Conclusion● Many countries educate local people to understand what they do when an earthquake occurs and tsunami reaches.● Even though technology has developed, warnings cannot reach all people.● The problem is how to get people to understand dangerousness of tsunamis and how to develop infrastructures of evacuation.
