  • 2. Access concentrator When your modem dials into your Internet service provider, it connects to a special router. The router called an access concentrator .
  • 3. ISP's data center ISP's main data center is connected to the POPs. ISP's data center locate email servers.
  • 4. Internet backbone Each ISP must have a high-speed connection to one of the major Internet backbone. There are very high-speed fiber-optic connections that link major ISP data center, universities, and government agencies. All major backbones are interconnected, so that if one fails, the others automatically pick up the traffic.
  • 5. Cable TV provider A growing number of home users get their Internet access from their local cable TV Company using cable modem servide. The cable provider acts as its own ISP, and maintains a high-speed connection to an Internet backbone.
  • 6. Communication tower Several wireless ISPs provide wireless Internet access using wireless PDA devices such as the Palm VII.
