  • 1. Fluid Structure Interaction with ASD Fluid-Structure Interaction with ASD and Shape Matching
  • 2. iSight FD was used to integrate Sculptor, Fluent and NX Nastran. (ModeFrontier,Phoenix Int, etc. could also be used) Sculptor was used to shape match the CFD mesh to the FEA model Integrated FSI Process
  • 3. CAD modeling was created in NX. Model Setup - NX
  • 4. . stp or .iges file is read into GAMBIT and a mesh is created around the wing Model Setup - CFD Mesh
  • 5. FEA mesh is created directly on the CAD model in NX using a quad shells Model Setup - FEA Mesh
  • 6. The wing is solved in CFD (Fluent) to give a starting point for the FSI problem Initial Solution - CFD
  • 7. The FEA model is then solved in NASTRAN with the pressures from Fluent applied. NX Nastran Solution
  • 8. The undeformed FEA model is deformed by moving ASD control points to match the structurally deformed (due to CFD loads) FEA model . Sculptor FEA Match
  • 9. Front View of the undeformed FEA model and the ASD matched deformed FEA model. ASD FEA Match
  • 10. The same deformations are then applied volumetrically to the CFD model, as shown. Apply ASD Deformation to CFD Mesh
