    1. Are you ready to be a new director?
    2. Are you a manager who thinks you should be a director? Or, are you a director who still thinks like a manager?
    3. A directorship requires a different mindset and different relationships from being a manager. Many new directors find it difficult to make the transition. Especially if they are also still managers.
    4. Most directors take time to make the transition. As a result they do not make their best contribution to the effectiveness of the board. Or they waste time while they adjust to the new role. This is often frustrating and stressful for you and your fellow directors.
    5. Are you ready to make a really effective contribution to the board? Are you really at ease in a boardroom role? Do you understand the roles and responsibilities of being an effective director? Do you understand how an effective board works?
    6. Are you able to think corporately – integrating all departments, not just your own. Are you confident to ask challenging questions?
    7. Becoming a director is an important threshold in your career. Maybe itʼs been a major ambition ‒ and it carries important legal responsibilities If you are going to do it, you owe it to yourself and your colleagues to do it well.
    8. The sooner that you make the transition; have a new mindset with more appropriate relationships; the sooner you can enjoy making your best contribution... ...and then the sooner you can start earning your keep!
