    2. Rack Storage Buildings
    3. Rack Storage Benefits
      • Weather Protection − boats stored under cover are not subject to gel coat destroying ultra violet light from the sun, bird droppings or other potential damage from the elements.
      • Securit y − a boat stored in a locked building is not likely to be the target of thieves or vandals
      • No bottom paint − boats stored out of water do not accumulate marine growth. Expensive antifouling paint is not required.
      • Easy Maintenance – since the boat is already out of water, repairs to shafts, prop or out drives are easy to accomplish.
      • No mooring cover – tedious covering and uncovering of the boat is not necessary since it is stored indoors.
      • Storms/Hurricanes − the boat is safely stored and protected from damage inside a hurricane rated building
      • Resale Value – storing boats out of the sun and water minimizes deterioration and depreciation of its worth.
    4. Various Building Designs
    5. Typical Design For Rack Storage Building
    6. Examples Of Three Sided Buildings
    7. Two 3 sided Buildings Combined As an example of adhering to Municipal height restrictions and maximum sq. ft per building, this is the type of design that I recommended for a project in Monroe County, Florida. The County would only permit buildings with a maximum height of 35’ and each building could only occupy 10,000 sq ft. The Developer needed to accommodate 200+ boats to meet the revenue goals that would justify the purchase of the marina and redevelopment costs. The facility was to be built as a Rackominium accommodating 35’+ boats.
    8. Dania Boat Beach Club If land area permits, the most efficient structure is a double/triple wide building. The structure has two aisles with boats racked on either side all under one roof. If height requirements allow, additional rack levels can be designed in the building's center. Building holds 296 boats Back of building – canal view Inside view - racks
    9. The Port - Overhead Crane A different kind of rack storage
      • 125 dry rack slips built to new hurricane codes
      • Boat concierge to service boats
      • Boats automatically washed before returning to slips (operation similar to auto car wash)
      • The boat building is humidity-controlled
      • Special Crane Stacking System.

    11. Naples Boat Club Surrounded by condominiums, the plan was to make the large drystack structure blend to the neighborhood. Return to table of contents
    12. Aesthetically designed to look like ‘Churchill Downs ,’ this structure is racked 3 & 4 levels high, has several roof pitches, dormers and a cupola. The structure holds 140 boats.   RENDERING OF PORT SANIBEL

    14. The ultimate facility is a destination for boaters and their families. A master plan for a wet slip marina, or rack storage operation, which offers various recreational amenities, retail stores, restaurants, service areas, boat dealerships and the like will create a marine destination. Creating a Marina Destination Sea Ranch Marina – Padre Island Texas 4 levels high and accommodates 216 boats Pirates Cove Marina – Stuart, Florida Facility accommodates 104 boats
    15. Boat and Trailer Storage
    16. Boat and Trailer Rack Storage Benefits
      • One of the newest trends in boat storage is a facility that can accommodate both boat and trailer. It is the excellent alternative to purchasing expensive waterfront real estate and serves a definite need. The following are some benefits of boat and trailer storage:
      • Inexpensive Property. – This type of boat storage building can be built on any commercially zoned real estate. However, it should be close to major highway intersections or a body of water. Very suitable for lake boating.
      • Today many Municipalities and HOAs (Home Owners Association) do not permit boats and trailers to be stored on public streets or driveways in housing developments.
      • Trailering a small boat (up to 32 ft) offers the fisherman or pleasure boater the capability of using the boat on many different bodies of water even hundreds of miles away from home.
      • Like other rack storage benefits boats and trailers are kept out of the elements, safe from storms, enjoy better theft prevention and are conveniently out of the way when not in use.
