      • Research , look at your existing site and your competitors - it’s essential to understand your audience
      • Define who do want to attract
      • Create goals for users on your site

      • Creating the foundation of the site
        • Planning is the key to a successful site!
        • Information architecture (how users will navigate throughout your site) ‏
          • Sitemap (the 30,000 foot view) ‏
          • Wireframe (the browser level view) ‏
          • Navigation (consistency) ‏
          • This is where you start thinking about content and search engine optimization!!

      • Good Design defines you online
        • Creates Trust
        • Visually Defines 'Professionalism'
        • Extends your brand
        • Gives users a sense of confidence
      • Good Web Design:
        • Doesn't distract or overwhelm
        • Has consistent elements
        • Has a clear message (important to be 'above the fold') ‏
        • Should guide the user through the layout (eyetracking) ‏
        • Incorporates zones of information
        • Creates content heiracrchy

      • Other Important Considerations:
        • Homepages, Landing Pages and Content Pages have different roles
        • Form design is critical to getting information from your customers
        • Use Flash wisely

      • Good Design compliments content
        • Use a web font (Arial or Times) for content, never use graphics for large areas of text
        • Use a consistent font throughout your site
        • skimmers vs. readers (make it easy to scan your content) ‏
        • Identify links, pdfs, word docs to users
      • Other Important Considerations:
        • Always create a site that is ADA compliant

    16. When these three unite
      • You create a user experience that is positive, and that is priceless
      • You create the right elements to be found in search engines
      • You give users reason to come back to your site
      • Most importantly, you create a center of marketing for yourself
