'Fire your boss!' - it's one of the clarion calls of the Home
Business industry, isn't it? So much so that I think it has
become a bit of a cliché. It is a beguiling thought isn't it?
That scene that you picture in your mind of walking into
the office of the guy (or gal) who is designing a huge chunk
of your life for you and telling them that you won't be
              needing their services any longer...
But just a moment. Let's take a closer look at that person
that you fantasize eliminating from your life. How is it that
they are in the position of being 'The Boss'? Now granted,
not all bosses are 'good bosses', but I will assume that in
the majority of cases 'the one in the chair' has exhibited
some flair. Flair for what, you may ask? Well, for all of the
following skills to greater or lesser degree; Planning,
  Organising, Staffing, Delegating, Supervising, Reporting
This is a skill set that is required of anyone who would
lead an organisation of people and when you as an
employee see these skills deployed effectively, you respect
                    it and call it leadership.
In the home business industry, there is much talk about
success, but not so much about success-ion. Let's imagine
for a moment that the company you work for was also
working on the same plan as you - they also wanted to
'fire your boss'. It could be for a number of reasons,
perhaps he had exhibited gross misconduct, perhaps he
was just a plain 'bad boss'. Unless it was a matter of real
urgency, the company would be foolish to fire him without
having in place a succession plan. This would ensure that
when the incumbent departed the scene, the department
was not left with a leadership vacuum, but that a new
boss was installed with the necessary skills to ensure a
                        smooth transition.
Someone has to provide vision and leadership in an
organisation, without it there is no organisation, you have
a group of people with no direction, supervision or
motivation - indeed you would be fortunate to even have
                   a group of people!
'Where there is no vision the people perish'
Proverbs 29:18
So, if you are motivated by the idea of building a large
organisation in your home business and 'firing your boss',
ask yourself whether it is because you want to avoid the
boss, or succeed him as the designer of your life.
