Melissa and Genesis researched snails and wrote this book in 2006.

Slide 3: Chapter 1: What Are Snails? Snails have a soft body and carry a hard shell. They do not have any legs. Snails have a thick, soft foot. It usually feels slimy. Snails use their antennae to touch and smell their food and enemies. Snails live in gardens and woods. On the shell is called a whorl. 3

Slide 4: Chapter 2: What Do Snails Eat? Snails eat dead leaves or plants. Snails eat fresh, green plants. Snails eat green algae off the branches of trees. 4

Slide 5: Chapter 3: Life Cycle of a Snail Snails make a hole in the soil and lay eggs there. But, usually after about 21 days the eggs hatch and their baby snails begin to move around. They usually lay about 40 eggs at a time. The eggs are white. 5

Slide 6: Glossary • algae – a green slime that branches and trunks of trees have • fresh – like you have a water with ice to drink • hatch – to be born out of an egg • Soft – Is like a cat’s soft body 6

Slide 7: About the Authors We wrote this book so people could learn more about snails. We chose snails because some people don’t understand what they eat or what the whorl on a snail’s shell is. Melissa learned about the special things snails do. Genesis worked at home to continue her research on snails! 7
