Goal Setting Handout
ALL # 2: Goal Setting
There are two parts to this Log:
Have you set goals in you life before? How have you done this? What were the results? Do you plan to change this process? What learning would you like to apply to your goal setting and action planning process?
You are to set and write a goal (it can be about anything you want, but it must be real and important to you). You are to use the process outlined in the Goal Setting Handout (the SMART method). You are welcome to consult your learning partner to help you with this. Once formulated, you are to include this goal in your posting.
Opening Discussion
You are working as an Employment Advisor in a community organization and are conducting intakes with unemployed job seekers one morning. You have 45 minutes to help each person. In this time you need to assess their needs and reach an agreement on a course of action.
The first person you see is a 35 year old man who was recently laid off. After a few minutes of discussion, you realize he is very unsure of himself and is drifting in his career. He believes that if he just had a ‘professional resume’ done, everything would be fine.
