  • Welcome to Valdosta State University College of Nursing Mandatory Applicant Advising. This presentation is designed for students applying to the Traditional BSN Program. VSU accepts students to the Traditional BSN program each fall and spring semester. This presentation is designed to explain the application process and the expectations associated with being a nursing student. Specific information for the current application process can be found on the BSN Applicant page located on the College of Nursing website.
  • Students must be accepted to VSU Office of Undergraduate Admissions to be considered for VSU’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences Traditional BSN. All core courses must be completed prior to starting the nursing program. Complete core classes at time of application will be calculated to create the nursing certification GPA. Applicants must successfully complete the TEAS test and mandatory applicant advising. Applicants must complete a NursingCAS application, submit the application, and ensure it is verified through NursingCAS to be considered.
  • If you are already a VSU student you have completed the first step in the process. Students transferring from other institutions must apply to VSU undergraduate admissions. Admissions must have time to process your application and evaluate your transfer credit. Please note the date on the BSN Applicant website that is suggested to guarantee admissions will have time to process your application. Once you have been tentatively accepted to VSU, an advisor from the College of Nursing and Health Sciences can answer your specific questions about how your coursework will be applied towards your core, and what courses are remaining.
  • Students must have all core classes complete prior to starting the nursing program. If students have remaining coursework, acceptance will be contingent upon successful completion of the core curriculum. Please note VSU requires Pathophysiology (NURS 2700) in area F. While the College of Nursing and Health Sciences does not grant overrides into this course, students accepted into the program are guaranteed a seat in a section of NURS 2700 the last seven weeks of fall term for those applying to spring semester or summer term for those applying to fall term.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to calculate their nursing certification GPA prior to encumbering the costs associated with application to the nursing program. A GPA calculator is provided on the BSN Applicant website. Please note one courses required in the core curriculum will be considered. Repeated coursework is calculated into the GPA. Additionally students must successfully pass with a ‘C’ or higher science courses, including NURS 2700, within two attempts. All courses in Area F must be completed with a ‘C’ or higher. When completing the GPA calculator, be certain to remove the hours from the courses you have not yet earned a grade.
  • The Test of Essential Academic Skills version V is the entrance test required for VSU School of Nursing. Students must meet or exceed the national mean score on the total adjusted score and the reading score with no more than two attempts in an application cycle.
  • VSU Testing Center does offer the TEAS. Detailed information about registering for the TEAS and dates available are posted on the BSN Applicant page. Please note the fee deadline to reserve your seat. Additional testing sites are available through ATI.
  • While the material in your core classes should provide a foundation of knowledge for the TEAS, students are encouraged to prepare for the entrance exam. Testing review material is available at the VSU Bookstore and through ATI. Students taking the ATI at VSU Testing will automatically have their scores sent to VSU. Students taking the TEAS at alternative locations must log onto the ATI website and request your TEAS scores be sent to “Valdosta State TEAS”.
  • All students must complete mandatory applicant advising each term of application. If you apply for more than one term, then you must attend
  • Check Your Status Online - You can check on the status of your application online by clicking on the options under the “Quick Status” menuBegin the Application Process Early – If you wait until the night before a program deadline to submit your application, your application may not be received by NursingCAS in time. You should apply at least four weeks before the earliest deadline of the program(s) that you are applying to. This will allow the necessary time to verify and process your application.Send Transcripts As Soon As Possible – It can take up to four weeks to process and verify your transcripts, so send your official transcripts to NursingCAS at your earliest convenience. In order to speed up processing, remember to include the Transcript Request Form when you request your College/University transcripts to be mailed to NursingCAS. Enter All Colleges Attended - Enter all undergraduate, graduate, professional and foreign institutions that you have attended even if it was only for a single course or college credit awarded while you were in high school. Official transcripts will be necessary for all undergraduate, graduate and professional coursework (taken toward a bachelor’s degree). Foreign coursework (non-Canadian) will need to be evaluated for U.S. equivalency. Enter All College Level Course Work - You must enter all coursework, including courses in which you received a grade of “W” or “Inc.” Enter all in-progress and planned coursework. This will help programs decide if you are planning to take required courses in the future.
