It allows the user tovisualise this data in a whole new way. Through a highly detailed feature rich map, users can switchbetween different map layers and manipulate 3D models to bring the location to life.Added functionality enables the user to:• Freeze the tracking to take a snapshot of the layer• Activate gestures to rotate, scale and move the layer• Make the layer transparent to see how it fits on the printed base layer• Displays information about different parts of the interfaceTo access the channel simply open Junaio and scan the map image or scan the QR code below. Followthe instructions to uncover the content by holding your device over the satellite image. For maximumfunctionality the content is best viewed on a tablet device although smartphones will still display themodels and key correctly. As part of the project we‟ll be looking at how Augmented Reality(AR) can be used toenhance teaching and learning for students in the School of Health Sciences.Case 1 – Clinical Skills LaboratoryClinical skills are an essential component of healthcare education for trainee nurses; simulated practiceis used to orientate students to the clinical environment. This example looks at how relevant resourcescan be overlaid over equipment, dummies and key areas within a clinical skills lab.Case 2 – Public Health Walk/Locality ProjectStudent nurses are allocated to a placement in East London and it is important that they gain anappreciation of the culture, history and social composition of the area they are working in. Thebricklaying team at the college produced their own videos which have improved the number of traineescutting bricks right first time from around 40% to a staggering 90%. Go to View > Header & Footer to edit June 17, 2013 | slide 12The future of AR in Education…1- Is there a pedagogic rationale?Do we let the tail wag the dog?Remember when Second Life was the Future of Education?!2- Multiple apps• As you‟ll have noticed, there are presently a plethora of apps required to trigger the images; only the appcode the image has been tagged with will “trigger” the AR material• This may change; Platforms tend to proliferate early on, but we may end up with a couple of major playersa few years down the line; especially if Google are seriously interested• There may be value in an Institutionally branding app to secure commercial content accessible only to yourlearners3- Materials developmentAt present, development costs are expensive but a shared repository of materials is on Jisc‟s radar
