  • Paul saw the need for a new group within LRS to manage technology that enhances learning – hence TeLIT (implementation team) to implement Tel StrategyWith exception of Gareth, who ran Moodle on his own – team made up from LRS members of staffMyself, part-time Librarian with remote services – Library Moodle pages etc.First things in my job was to create a set of Standards for our vle – virtual learning environment - MoodleMedia Developer cam from MAPP – media & print production

  • JISC VLE Forum – difficulties of implementing standards.
  • Webinar by Vicki Weavers who then worked at Weston College detailing the process they had been through to try and implement the Standards and that was invaluable! It’s easy to write standards it is much harder to make them work in practice.
  • Others standards were very helpful, but we needed to fit them to our institution. Accessibility of resource and documentsIssue of compliance – getting the standards accepted.

  • Presentation objectives To share our own process of creating Moodle Medal standards, including the role benchmarking made. To explain how the TeLIT team was set up and how it works. To answer any questions that might arise. To stimulate some discussion about the role of the VLE.

  • TeLIT team objective The new TeLIT team implements the TeL Strategy and Action Plan for the college,including managing and developing the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) and training, advising and supporting teaching staff in all aspects of Technology-enhanced Learning.
  • Medals – naming. “Olympic” standards and medals “Moodle medals” and standards
  • Benchmarking College had a set of Minimum Standards. Weston College VLE Standards. Moodle Medal scheme at Cornwall College. Informal – chatting to other VLE developers at events such as RSC SW VLE Forum (JISC Regional Support Centre South West) about implementing Standards.

  • Benchmarking results Very useful, but standards need to be developed to fit our institution. Areas found for improvement on benchmarked standards were in terms of accessibility and compliance.

  • Achievements so far Minimum standards audit – 22% to 94%. 15 medal requests; 7 re-submissions; 5 Bronze awards and 1 silver pending student feedback this term* (1 Bronze at the end of last term). Annual audit has just happened of all FE significant qualifications in respect of the Standards. *Student feedback – all 4 and 5 star ratings.
  • Future developments Looking for a statistical link between VLE use and student achievement. Standards for Business support sites. Student involvement (star rating). Recent Student Conference – Moodle issue was navigation of their sites. Recent OFSTED report – creation of Maths & English „signposting‟ site on the VLE and e- learning.

  • There are 2 libraries, bookable study areas with computers, a bookableroom of computers and 2 quick access computers in KR reception.The libraries between them have a monthly footfall of about 20,000visits. Over 6000 people log into the library computers each month.The library pages on the College VLE (Moodle) provide for transactions(renewing, reserving); a range of study skills & research support –including guides to useful websites & subject areas; electronic resources(ebrary amongst them); Service information & space for feedback.
